You could say Jim Carrey‘s heart grew three sizes at the 2026 Cesar Awards.
Jim Carrey attended the French film awards ceremony on February 26th with his family and partner. Joining him were his daughter, Jane Erin Carrey, her teenage son Jackson, and his companion, Min Ah.
As Jim accepted the award celebrating his remarkable career, he expressed his love for his family, daughter Jane, and grandson Jackson, saying ‘I love you now and forever’ in French.
The 64-year-old expressed his gratitude, thanking his wonderful partner, Min Ah, and telling her he loves her. He also thanked his father, Percy Joseph Carrey, whom he described as the funniest person he’s ever known, and credited him with teaching him the importance of love, kindness, and humor.
Jim was first married to Melissa Womer from 1987 to 1995, and they had a daughter named Jane. He then briefly married his Dumb and Dumber co-star, Lauren Holly. Later, in the 2000s, he dated both Renée Zellweger and Jenny McCarthy.
In the 2010s, Jim dated both makeup artist Cathriona White, who tragically passed away in 2015 at age 30 due to a prescription drug overdose, and actress Ginger Gonzaga, known for her role as She-Hulk.
Jim has kept his personal life quiet lately, but he’s said he doesn’t plan to get married again after experiencing two divorces. He simply doesn’t feel it’s something he needs.

He admitted he couldn’t predict how he’d react if someone physically attacked him, telling Howard Stern in 2014 that it’s impossible to know how you’ll feel in a situation like that. However, he added that he would definitely avoid putting himself in harm’s way intentionally.
Still, the Truman Show actor has no regrets when it comes to love.
You know, I was chatting with Howard Stern a while back, and he asked me about material possessions. I told him honestly, I don’t really focus on things. What I do value immensely are the people who’ve enriched my life and contributed positively to my journey. It’s their goodness and support that truly matter to me.

Jim Carrey was the youngest of four children and was born in Newmarket, a suburb of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

When Jim was in seventh grade, a teacher offered him a deal: if he let his classmates work quietly, he could have 15 minutes at the end of class to try out his own ideas. He used his free time after finishing his work to jot down notes and practice. As he later told Rolling Stone magazine in 1995, even then he was a bit of a troublemaker.

Percy played a key role in launching Jim’s comedy career, giving him a ride to his first performance at the Yuk Yuk’s club in Toronto. Unfortunately, the debut didn’t go well – Jim, wearing a yellow suit his mother made, didn’t get much of a reaction from the audience.

As his comedy improved, he impressed the famous Rodney Dangerfield, who then hired him to be his opening act on tour, which included shows in Las Vegas.

Jim Carrey married Melissa Wormer in 1987 after meeting her while she worked as a waitress at the Comedy Store. Later that year, they had a daughter, Jane Erin Carrey, who later competed on the show American Idol.

10. The actor dated Jenny McCarthy from 2005-2010.

7. He once dated singer Linda Ronstadt for 8 months in the early ‘80s.

Jim Carrey married actress Lauren Holly after meeting her while filming Dumb and Dumber in 1996, but the marriage ended after less than a year.

12. In 1996, he was offered the role of the Eighth Doctor on Doctor Who. He declined.

From the late 1990s to the early 2000s, Jim Carrey dated his Me, Myself & Irene co-star, Renée Zellweger, and they were even engaged for a short period.

Jim Carrey won Golden Globe Awards two years in a row, in 1999 for The Truman Show and in 2000 for Man on the Moon. He fully committed to his role as comedian Andy Kaufman in Man on the Moon, taking his Method acting to a remarkable level. Fellow actor Paul Giamatti described the experience as bizarre. Carrey stayed in character as Kaufman or his alter ego, Tony Clifton, constantly while on set. He even went to extreme lengths – when playing Clifton, he carried Limburger cheese in his pockets to smell unpleasant, and would intentionally hug and shake hands with people, covering them in the scent. Giamatti said it was disgusting and unsettling, and that was just the beginning of Carrey’s unusual behavior during filming.

In 1990, before he became famous, Jim Carrey wrote himself a check for $10 million, dated for Thanksgiving 1995, as a way to visualize his future success. By 1994, when he landed the role in Dumb and Dumber, he had actually earned that amount. He then placed the check in his father’s casket when his dad passed away that same year.

Following the death of his former girlfriend, Cathriona White, in 2015 from a suspected drug overdose, Jim Carrey faced two wrongful death lawsuits. He served as a pallbearer at her funeral in Ireland. The suits were filed by her husband and her mother. Carrey responded with a statement expressing his sadness and stating that White’s struggles predated their relationship and her death was unavoidable, adding he hoped people would stop trying to profit from the tragedy. Both lawsuits were ultimately dismissed in 2018.

He became a U.S. citizen in 2004 but kept his Canadian citizenship as well, becoming a dual citizen. This proved beneficial, as he was inducted into the Canadian Walk of Fame that same year. While he hasn’t yet received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Canada honored him further – a decade later, Canada Post issued a postage stamp in his honor.
