The trailer for Scary Movie 6 is here, giving us a first look at the latest batch of horror movie parodies and jokes. After a 13-year break, the filmmakers have brought back Regina Hall and Anna Faris, along with some familiar faces, to poke fun at popular horror films released since the last installment.
Marketing for Scary Movie 6 begins now, with the first trailer set to play before showings of Scream 7 in cinemas on June 12th. The trailer will continue the tradition of poking fun at the Scream universe – featuring characters parodying Sidney, Dewey, and Gale – and will also include references to many other horror films.
14. Scream VI
The trailer for Scary Movie 6 begins with a scene of a character on a train being attacked by Ghostface, which is a clear parody of a similar attack on Mindy Meeks-Martin in Scream VI.
The trailer ends with a funny reference to the sequel itself. The characters discuss how Halloween wouldn’t be the same without Jamie Lee Curtis, and Scream wouldn’t be Scream without Neve Campbell—a point that highlights the fact that Scream VI didn’t include Neve Campbell.
13. Heart Eyes & Other Recognizable Horror Movie Killers
Eagle-eyed viewers might notice someone on the train wearing the same mask as the killer from last year’s horror film, Heart Eyes. It’s a direct reference to the villain from Sony’s slasher movie.
This scene follows a trend of referencing classic horror villains. So far, viewers have spotted characters like Jason Voorhees (from Friday the 13th), Leatherface (Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Michael Myers (Halloween), Pennywise (IT), and what looks like Chucky from the Child’s Play films.
12. M3GAN
The highlight of the train scenes is definitely M3GAN. Someone is wearing a complete costume of the popular AI killer doll from the 2022 movie. We see M3GAN dancing along the train again in this scene.
11. Wednesday
The new Scary Movie 6 playfully pokes fun at Netflix’s popular Wednesday series. A character with the same iconic black braids as Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday Addams appears briefly, and is cleverly named Tuesday as a nod to the original character.
10. Cindy Looks Like Laurie Strode In 2018’s Halloween
When Farris returns as Cindy, her new look is a clear nod to Jamie Lee Curtis’ appearance as Laurie Strode in the 2018 Halloween film. Cindy’s longer blonde hair, glasses, and clothing are all inspired by Curtis’ character, and like Laurie, Cindy’s home is heavily fortified for protection.
9. Ma
The character of Brenda Meeks draws inspiration from horror films, specifically resembling Octavia Spencer’s character in the movie Ma. Her short haircut and sweater are a direct match to the look seen in the 2019 Blumhouse film, which became known for its many viral memes.
8. Sinners
The new Scary Movie 6 trailer playfully references a scene from Ryan Coogler’s recent film. Around the middle of the trailer, three white characters approach a party Brenda and Shorty are attending, looking to join the fun. This is a direct nod to a similar scene featuring Remmick arriving at Club Juke in Sinners.
Later in the film, there’s a scene reminiscent of Sammie entering the church. These moments aren’t unexpected, as reports indicated that Scary Movie 6 would be parodying several films.
7. Everything Everywhere All At Once
The trailer for the new Scream movie includes a surprising nod to Everything Everywhere All At Once. A scene shows Cindy battling Ghostface with dildos – a clear reference to the memorable, and inventive, kung fu fight between Evelyn and Jobu Tupaki using the same objects in the award-winning film.
6. Get Out
The latest Scary Movie, the sixth installment, playfully references Jordan Peele’s acclaimed film Get Out. A scene directly copies a moment from Get Out where the character Chris, played by Daniel Kaluuya, becomes paralyzed and sinks into a chair – in Scary Movie 6, this happens to the character Shorty after Ghostface lightly taps a spoon against a teacup.
5. Smile
The scene briefly references the Smile films. Cindy is shown in a hospital confronting someone with an unnaturally wide smile, and she even tells them to stop before hitting them with a bedpan. This is a direct parody of the original Smile horror movies directed by Parker Finn.
