2025 was a fantastic year for anime, with popular series like Solo Leveling and Dandadan continuing their stories. Fans of Shonen Jump also enjoyed the first anime adaptations of highly-rated manga like Sakamoto Days and Witch Watch, which quickly gained a dedicated following. Shueisha’s Shonen Jump publishes a diverse range of manga, primarily focused on action but encompassing many genres. Each year, numerous series from Japan’s leading publisher make their animated debuts. Weekly Shonen Jump is Shueisha’s most successful magazine, famous for featuring timeless classics such as Dragon Ball, One Piece, and countless others.
Wow, 2026 is shaping up to be an amazing year for anime! It’s already kicked off with You and I Are Polar Opposites, but I’m especially hyped for Akane-banashi! This series is based on the fantastic manga by Yuki Sunega and Takamasa Moe, and the anime finally premieres on April 4th, 2026. The best part? The official English X account announced that their YouTube channel will have all the latest trailers in tons of languages. And after it airs in Japan, we in North America and Latin America will be able to watch full episodes right there on YouTube – that’s incredible news!
Akane-banashi Doesn’t Have a Global Streaming Release Date Yet

Given how popular the manga is, it’s surprising that no streaming services have announced plans to show the anime worldwide. With the release date approaching quickly, it’s especially odd that even major platforms like Crunchyroll and Netflix haven’t said anything yet. This is even more unexpected considering Netflix previously teased fans by including panels from Akane-banashi and Kagurabachi in a promotional video, leading many to believe both series might get anime adaptations – even before any official announcement was made.
The streaming service may make an announcement shortly, but a release date hasn’t been confirmed yet. Also, their YouTube channel will only be accessible in North and South America, highlighting the need for the anime to be available worldwide.
What Is The Plot of Akane-banashi?

I’m completely fascinated by this story! It’s all about Rakugo, this incredible traditional Japanese art of storytelling. Honestly, it’s not super well-known outside of Japan, though it’s slowly gaining a following, which is amazing! The series follows Akane Osaki, a high schooler who’s determined to become a Rakugo master. It’s been her lifelong dream, but there’s also a mystery she’s hoping to solve – figuring out what really happened when her father was suddenly kicked out years ago. It’s a really compelling combination of art and personal drama!
Shinta Arakawa was a highly respected Rakugo storyteller until he was unexpectedly dismissed just before reaching the top rank, shin’uchi. Now, his daughter Akane is determined to become a shin’uchi herself – the highest level a Rakugo performer can achieve – and clear her father’s name after what she believes was a wrongful expulsion. Rakugo is a traditionally male-dominated art form.
