As a big fan of this Netflix thriller, I’m a little disappointed to see it’s having a tough time. It really burst onto the scene with its first season, but it’s been struggling to maintain that momentum. The latest numbers for Season 3 show a pretty significant drop – about 40% fewer viewers compared to when Season 2 launched! While it still managed to hit number two on Netflix’s Top 10 when it premiered, losing almost 14 million viewers is definitely noticeable, and it makes me wonder where the show is headed.
Season three of The Night Agent follows Agent Peter Sutherland on a new mission: tracking down a young treasury agent who ran to Istanbul after killing his supervisor and stealing confidential government information. As Peter investigates, he gets caught up in a web of secret funding and finds himself targeted by both assassins and a determined journalist. Peter and the runaway agent must team up to expose dangerous secrets and old resentments that could destroy them – and even destabilize the government.
The Night Agent Failed to Live Up to Expectations—But Not How You Think
Viewers disagree on when The Night Agent started to falter, but many believe Season 2 was the main problem. Some think Season 3 is a return to the quality of the first season, and that the disappointment of Season 2 kept people from coming back, even though early reviews are positive. One fan said, “Season 2 was just so bad, I’m not in a hurry to watch Season 3.” Another commented on a common trend: “It’s strange how so many shows have a fantastic first season followed by a terrible second, especially when the same creators and writers are involved. It doesn’t make sense, but it’s happening with almost every show now.”
Despite the lower-than-expected viewership, many fans are still optimistic about the series. They aren’t quick to criticize it after a weaker second season because the third season has been a strong return to form, capturing the qualities people enjoyed in the beginning. One fan explained, “I went into season 3 expecting little after season 2, but now I’m eager for season 4! It was well done.” They also noted the potential for a character named Rose to reappear, adding, “He doesn’t necessarily need a love interest, but they mentioned her a lot this season.” This fan, like many others, is defending the show against those who seem to enjoy finding fault with it.
