If you haven’t heard much about Watch Dogs lately, there’s a reason. The series has been paused since the release of Watch Dogs: Legion in 2020. Despite a movie being planned, Ubisoft doesn’t appear to be prioritizing a new game right now.
It seemed like the series was over, but recent reports suggest that’s not entirely true. Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming, who previously stated the series was finished, has discovered some new development work. However, it appears this work isn’t for a brand new game, but rather a Director’s Cut of Legion with added content.
There’s talk of a potential nighttime mode being added to the game, and it sounds like they’re recording new motion capture, which probably means new story content is coming. According to one insider, this seems to be a new strategy for Ubisoft – releasing updated versions of their existing games, similar to remasters or ‘Director’s Cuts’.
He believes this is happening while they finalize plans with the rest of the company, hinting at an announcement in the next few months. The rumored Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag remake might be part of this, but it seems to be a more substantial project. Ubisoft likely decided it deserved a full release, which is why it’s reportedly been delayed until next year.
