God of War Studio is Working on “A New Franchise” in the Same Universe, Per Senior Writer’s LinkedIn

Now that God of War: Sons of Sparta is finished and a remake of the God of War Trilogy is in its initial stages, everyone is looking to Sony Santa Monica to see what they create next. Although there’s speculation about a new God of War game being revealed this year, it’s also possible they’re working on a completely new series.

For the past five years, Lauren Signorino worked as a senior writer at Sony Santa Monica Studio, contributing to a new story within the God of War universe. She helped develop the overall story and creative direction, crafting characters, storylines, and original background details to build upon the popular game series.

As a huge fan, I was so excited to read about what Signorino has been up to! Apparently, they’ve been deeply involved in crafting a really compelling story, weaving it directly into the gameplay and world itself. It sounds like they worked with a bunch of different teams to create experiences that really hit you emotionally, and all for players around the world. What’s even cooler is they weren’t just working on something old – they were helping to build the future of a franchise! And just to clear up any confusion, this isn’t related to Sons of Sparta. Signorino specifically said they helped shape the story and future of a brand new God of War project – I can’t wait to find out what it is!

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier clarified a previous statement he made last year on Resetera. He explained his comment about the game not being a completely new franchise, but potentially feeling like one, now makes more sense.

There are still a lot of unanswered questions. Could Kratos go back to Greece and maybe use a scythe? Will the next game focus on Atreus, his son from the Norse adventures? And is this a brand new game, or something different from what Cory Barlog is rumored to be developing?

Honestly, it’s tough to say when this game will finally come out. The one good thing I’ve heard is that it might not be delayed all the way to 2028 – there’s a chance we could see it next year! We’ll just have to wait and see, but I’ll keep you updated as I learn more. While we’re waiting, if you haven’t already, you should check out my review of God of War Sons of Sparta – I gave it a 9/10 because the art and combat are just incredible.
