It might have looked like id Software finished with DOOM: The Dark Ages after its release last year, but the team has been working hard behind the scenes. They haven’t just been releasing updates, like Ripatorium 2.0 – they’re also developing a new single-player expansion that hasn’t been revealed yet.
Honestly, I think the reason we haven’t gotten any news about the DLC is just how big it is. Hugo Martin, the creative director, was on the Slayers Club stream recently and kept saying it’s massive – like, seriously huge. He admitted it’s been a while since the main game came out and we’re all waiting, but he wants us to know this DLC feels like a whole new game. He kept using words like ‘ginormous,’ so yeah, it sounds like they’re building something really substantial.
Players can expect a new spear that allows for quick dashes in the upcoming DLC. According to Martin, the DLC will be significantly more challenging than the main game. Good news for fans who missed it: quickswapping, a feature removed from Eternal, will be returning as something you can unlock, but in a surprising way.
Okay, the only slightly annoying thing is that the first little glimpse of this game feels like it’s still a ways off! I’m guessing we’ll finally see something at Summer Game Fest, maybe during the Xbox showcase, or even at QuakeCon later in August. Considering how massive id Software is making it sound, I wouldn’t be shocked if the full game doesn’t drop until early 2027, though. It sounds like it’s a huge project!
