The original anime was a huge hit, and then they followed it up with an amazing movie trilogy. Now, after all this time, we’re getting even more – I can’t wait!
After a 13-year wait since the last film, Puella Magi Madoka Magica is continuing its story with a new movie, Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie: Walpurgisnacht: Rising. The film has faced several production delays, including a previous target release date in February 2026, but is now scheduled to premiere in Japan this August.

The movie Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie: Walpurgisnacht: Rising is now officially scheduled to be released in Japan on August 28th. After several postponements since its initial plan for a 2024 release, this is the first firm date announced. This suggests the film is finally on track for release, and hopefully, there won’t be any further production setbacks. Fingers crossed that everything stays on schedule!
The production team apologized to fans for the delay and thanked them for their patience, announcing a new release date. They asked fans to wait a little longer. What to Know for New Madoka Magica Movie
I recently learned about the new film, Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie: Walpurgisnacht: Rising, and it’s a direct sequel to the 2013 movie, Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie Part 3: Rebellion. What’s really exciting is that a lot of the original team is back – the same people who worked on the original anime series are involved. Magica Quartet, the creators of the franchise, are contributing to the story, and Yukihiro Miyamoto is directing at studio SHAFT. Gen Urobuchi wrote the script, Ume Aoki designed the characters, and Yuki Kajiura is composing the music, so it sounds like they’re aiming for a similar feel to the original.
The main voice actors from the original series—Aoi Yuki as Madoka Kaname, Chiwa Saito as Homura Akemi, Kaori Mizuhashi as Mami Tomoe, Eri Kitamura as Sayaka Miki, Ai Nonaka as Kyoko Sakura, Kana Asumi as Nagisa Momoe, and Emiri Kato as Kyubey—are all returning. The voice cast for any new characters hasn’t been announced yet, and there’s currently no word on when it will be released internationally.
