First released in 1999, Galaxy Quest has become a much-loved fan favorite, and a sequel might actually happen. The movie originally poked fun at Star Trek, but it did so with such affection that even dedicated Star Trek fans considered it one of the best films in that universe. Now, 27 years later, one of the original Galaxy Quest actors has suggested they’d be eager to return for a follow-up if one were made.
While discussing her new film, For Worse, Missi Pyle talked about the possibility of a Galaxy Quest sequel, and she seems enthusiastic about returning. She said she’d gladly reprise her role if a sequel were made, noting that sequels to her other film, Dodgeball, have been discussed in the past. Pyle expressed how much she enjoyed being part of Galaxy Quest and would happily participate in another one, but also wishes everyone well regardless. Essentially, she’s hoping for a sequel but is content either way.
Galaxy Quest Sequel Has Been Rumored for Decades

For years, fans have hoped for a sequel to Galaxy Quest, and discussions actually began as early as 1999. Things gained momentum in 2014 when Tim Allen revealed a script existed, and both Sam Rockwell and Sigourney Weaver expressed interest in reprising their roles. However, Enrico Colantoni wasn’t keen on the idea, fearing a sequel would harm the original film’s reputation.
The movie Galaxy Quest is surprisingly popular, even among the stars of Star Trek. Actors like Patrick Stewart, Wil Wheaton, George Takei, and William Shatner have all expressed their appreciation for it, though Shatner jokingly said he didn’t realize it was a parody of Star Trek. In fact, Star Trek fans themselves showed their love for Galaxy Quest by voting it the seventh-best Star Trek movie at the 2013 Las Vegas convention.
Despite talk of a potential movie sequel or even a TV series based on Galaxy Quest, the idea has faced a major hurdle. Alan Rickman’s death in 2016 after a battle with cancer created a difficult situation – his beloved character would either need to be recast or removed from the story, and his absence would significantly impact the film. While director Nigel Allen suggested a revival was possible just a year later, actor Sam Rockwell believed Rickman’s passing ultimately ended any chance of a sequel.
Ever since the original movie, people have been talking about a possible continuation of Galaxy Quest. There was buzz about a TV series on Prime Video, and in 2021, Simon Pegg (who played Scotty in the Star Trek reboot films) reportedly began writing a script for a streaming series, potentially for Paramount+. However, that was five years ago, and there haven’t been any updates on Pegg’s involvement. According to Missy Pyle, there are no current plans for a new series or movie, but she’d happily return if the opportunity came up.
