Daisy Edgar-Jones has ben cast in a new adaptation of Jane Austen’s beloved Sense and Sensibility.
On social media, the actress who plays in Normal People and Where the Crawdads Sing hinted at an upcoming announcement by posting a selfie of herself peeking at a book through her fingers, using an eye emoji for the caption.
Focus and Working Title are currently developing this project, having previously joined forces for the 2005 film Pride & Prejudice, starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen, as well as the 2020 adaptation of Emma, headlined by Anya Taylor-Joy and Johnny Flynn.
The BAFTA-nominated filmmaker, Georgia Oakley (of Blue Jean), is set to take the director’s chair, while renowned writer Diana Reid contributes the screenplay.
Sense and Sensibility tells the story of sisters Elinor and Marianne, who find themselves grappling with emotions like love, grief, and societal demands after their father’s passing, leaving them in a precarious financial situation.
Additional cast members, including for the role of Marianne Dashwood, are yet to be announced.
Earlier versions encompass the 1995 film featuring Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet portraying the Dashwood sisters, with Hugh Grant in the role of Edward Ferrars.
The movie received nominations for seven Oscars, among them Best Picture, Best Actress, and Best Adapted Screenplay, with Thompson taking home the award for that category.
A modern version features the BBC drama from 2008, with Hattie Morahan and Charity Wakefield portraying the roles of the Dashwood sisters.
Edgar-Jones gained widespread recognition for her standout performance in the BBC Three series Normal People, where she shone brightly alongside Paul Mescal, solidifying herself as an up-and-coming talent.
Since then, she has gone on to star in Twisters, Fresh and War of the Worlds.
Currently, she has three forthcoming projects lined up. These include Here Comes the Flood, A Place in Hell, and a reimagining of Sense and Sensibility.
