‘What the F*ck Is This?’: God of War Creator Hates First TV Show Image

David Jaffe, the creator of the God of War series, isn’t holding back with his opinions. After criticizing recent God of War games like Sons of Sparta, he’s now shared his thoughts on the first look at the upcoming God of War TV show on Amazon Prime.

The photo shows Ryan Hurst, who plays Kratos, and Callum Vinson, who plays Atreus, recreating the opening hunting scene from the 2018 God of War game. Atreus is shown aiming with a bow and arrow, while Kratos crouches behind him. Although this specific image probably won’t be in the show, it’s still facing backlash, particularly from David Jaffe.

Jaffe was particularly bothered by Kratos’s facial expression in the image, describing it as foolish and comparing it to someone relieving themselves in the woods. He also criticized Atreus’s hair, saying it looked overly styled with a lot of hair product. Finally, he questioned whether Atreus might have a disability, based on how he was holding the bow.

The picture is strange; he looks like a really confused young boy who’s used way too much hair product.

The background rock is also drawing criticism. Jaffe jokingly suggests it looks like a cheap model railroad accessory, saying it resembles something you’d purchase at a hobby store for a train set – ‘like a boulder set for the trains to pass by’.

Even though Jaffe initially disliked the first look at the show, he’s optimistic it will be good. He has high praise for showrunner Ron Moore, calling him incredibly talented and expressing confidence in the show’s success. He also believes Cory Barlog’s involvement will be a major asset, both to the series and its storytelling. Overall, Jaffe feels positive about the show’s potential.
