Okay, so I’m completely blown away by the newest Pokemon game! After 30 years of Pokemon, and tons of amazing titles, it’s actually become the highest-rated one ever. I’ve seen some fans get a little frustrated with recent entries, but this one is seriously hitting different. Critics are loving it, and honestly, I can see why – it’s setting a new standard for the whole series!
The new Pokémon spin-off game, Pokémon Pokopia, will be available on Nintendo Switch 2 starting this week on March 5th. Early reviews are in, and the game is receiving fantastic scores! Currently, Pokopia has an average score of 89/100 on Metacritic, making it the highest-rated game of 2026. It’s even breaking records when compared to games released in previous years.
According to reviews on Metacritic, Pokopia has become the highest-rated Pokémon game of all time. It currently has a slightly higher score than beloved classics like Pokémon X/Y, Pokémon Black/White, Pokémon Sun/Moon, and Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver, which all previously averaged 87/100. This is a surprising achievement for the new spin-off game, and demonstrates just how well-received it is.
Is This Truly the Best Pokemon Game Ever?
It’s important to remember that video game reviews have evolved significantly over time. This means older Pokémon games from the 90s and early 2000s would likely receive different scores today. For example, Pokémon Red and Blue, which were incredibly popular and launched the Pokémon franchise, probably would have scored very highly on Metacritic if there had been more gaming publications back then. Because of these changes in how games are reviewed, it’s difficult to directly compare Pokopia to previous Pokémon titles.
