All 11 Confirmed Horror Movie Parodies in Scary Movie 6 (So Far), Ranked by How Excited We Are for Them

The official trailer for Scary Movie 6 is here, and it was released alongside news about Scream 7! This new installment marks the first Scary Movie film in thirteen years, and even more excitingly, it’s the first one created by Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory Wayans since Scary Movie 2 – over 25 years ago. Fans have been waiting a long time for this film, both for a consistently popular series and to see it return to its original style.

It’s been over ten years since the last Scary Movie, which means a whole new wave of horror films are fair game for parody. Now that the trailer for Scary Movie 6 is out, we can see which recent movies the filmmakers are targeting. While the movie focuses mostly on films from the last three years, it’s clear the creators have been keeping up with the horror genre, and are choosing the films with the most comedic potential.

11) M3GAN

The problem with both the movie M3GAN and any parodies of it is that most jokes rely on a single, viral dance sequence from the trailer – not the actual film. Before M3GAN was released, that dance became a popular meme and created expectations for the movie’s tone that the film didn’t quite deliver on. Now, with M3GAN 2.0 already failing to resonate, repeating that same dance in a 2026 parody wouldn’t be funny; it’s a joke that’s already been done and needs fresh, creative ideas to work.

10) Terrifier 3

It’s exciting for horror fans to see an independent series like Terrifier become so popular that it’s referenced in a major parody film like Scary Movie. It’s an achievement few other independent horror films have managed, even those that did well in theaters (like The Black Phone, Old, and Candyman, which aren’t shown in the Scary Movie 6 trailer, though they might still be in the movie). However, the joke about Terrifier in the trailer seems to be simply showing something that would naturally happen in a Terrifier movie. There’s potential for a clever parody, but the trailer doesn’t reveal it – it’s a bit unclear what the joke is supposed to be.

9) The Substance

Similar to Terrifier, Scary Movie 6 poking fun at The Substance shows they understand what’s currently popular in horror. However, parodying The Substance will be challenging, as that film is already over-the-top and has a very strange style. Based on the trailer, the jokes seem likely to focus on superficial things like plastic surgery or the weight-loss drug Ozempic, which wouldn’t be particularly clever or original. Hopefully, the movie offers more than just those simple gags, because it’s already captured the look and feel of the original film.

8) Get Out

It’s been nearly a decade since Jordan Peele’s Get Out came out, and the film was initially seen as too significant to be spoofed. This gives the Wayans brothers a lot to work with, given how highly regarded the original movie was. Hopefully, a parody of the iconic “Sunken Place” will be clever and go beyond the simple gag of Shorty being pulled into a chair, as seen in the trailer. It’s interesting to note that Marlon Wayans previously worked with Peele on the film HIM, leading some to hope Peele might even make a cameo to playfully poke fun at his own work.

7) Smile

Despite the success of the Smile films, the simple premise – people with creepy smiles – opens the door for some good-natured parody. What made Scary Movie so funny was how its characters reacted to horror tropes in a realistic way – like, who wouldn’t hit a creepy smiling person with a bedpan? Hopefully, we’ll see more movies that capture that same spirit.

6) Weapons

Unlike the other horror films being spoofed in Scary Movie 6, Weapons already has a darkly comedic tone. It’s entirely possible the ending of Weapons will be funnier than anything in the new movie. And Scary Movie 6 could definitely find humor in the classic trope of kids running with their arms outstretched. However, parodying Aunt Gladys, who’s already a hilarious character, presents a real challenge.

5) MA

It looks like Scary Movie 6 will mostly be parodying the visual style of Octavia Spencer’s character in MA (which was a funny movie on its own). What’s really interesting is who is wearing the costume. Regina Hall’s Brenda was always the highlight of the Scary Movie series, so bringing her back with a MA parody feels like a great idea. It’ll give her a chance to shine and remind everyone how hilarious she is. However, because so many moments from MA have already become popular memes, Scary Movie 6 has a lot to live up to.

4) Sinners

Given how relevant Sinners has stayed in the cultural conversation over the last year, it’s ripe for parody, and it will be interesting to see how those parodies play out. The trailer for Scary Movie 6 suggests it’s drawing more heavily from Sinners than other films it’s referencing, with jokes about both the vampire Remmick trying to get into the club and Sammie’s return to his father’s church. These moments seem to have the potential for genuinely funny jokes that go beyond what’s already shown in the trailer, and hopefully, the final movie delivers on that promise.

3) Halloween

Besides Regina Hall’s Brenda, Anna Faris’s Cindy is the only other memorable character to come from the Scary Movie franchise. Just like Brenda, her brief appearance in the Scary Movie 6 trailer is both a clever parody and a reminder of what makes her so funny. The trailer shows Faris playfully mimicking Jamie Lee Curtis’s role in the 2018 Halloween, and it works perfectly both visually and in terms of the story. Faris is a fantastic comedic actress and excels at physical comedy, and both of those strengths are clear in the trailer. With Jamie Lee Curtis having played the older Laurie Strode in three Halloween movies (and many similar characters since then), hopefully Faris’s Cindy can finally put an end to this horror movie cliché.

2) Longlegs

A highlight of the upcoming Scary Movie 6 is the return of Chris Elliott as Hanson, the memorable butler from Scary Movie 2. Fans loved the character, and it’s exciting to see him back. Even better, Scary Movie 6 is taking the parody to a new level by basing Hanson’s portrayal on Nicolas Cage’s performance in Longlegs. The trailer shows a surprisingly strong connection between Cage’s creepy serial killer character and the uniquely awkward Hanson, promising a hilarious take on the source material.

1) Scream

The recent Scream movies have done well at the box office, but they’ve made some strange choices creatively. They’ve moved away from the self-aware humor about horror movies that originally made the series special. This creates a good opportunity for Scary Movie 6 to poke fun at Scream’s direction – after all, Scary Movie started as a parody of Scream – and potentially offer a more insightful commentary on the horror genre as a whole.
