The game is on for Young Sherlock.
The new Prime Video series explores the early days of Sherlock Holmes (Hero Fiennes Tiffin). He’s accused of a murder at Oxford University and must work with a fellow student, James Moriarty (Dónal Finn), to prove his innocence and expose a larger plot.
Now, Young Sherlock has debuted with a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
A recent review in ScreenRant praised the upcoming show Young Sherlock, calling it “a masterpiece that successfully revives the spirit of Arthur Conan Doyle’s original stories.” The review highlighted the series’ ability to fully explore Sherlock Holmes’ potential, delving into his mind and origins.
The dynamic between Moriarty and Sherlock is fascinating, highlighting both their similarities and differences. Though the new series portrays them as friends, this builds anticipation for their future conflict. Earning a 9 out of 10 star rating, Young Sherlock is a successful adaptation that honors the original story while also offering a fresh and innovative take on the characters.
The overwhelmingly positive response to Guy Ritchie returning to the Sherlock Holmes series is significant. He previously directed the first two films starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. While a third Sherlock Holmes movie has been discussed since 2011’s A Game of Shadows, it hasn’t moved forward. During that time, Ritchie worked on other projects, including Disney’s live-action Aladdin and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, the latter of which also featured Tiffin.
I’m excited to see Guy Ritchie back in the director’s chair after a long break! He’s returning with Young Sherlock – a new series for Prime Video, and he didn’t just oversee it, he actually directed all six episodes. It’s been almost fifteen years since he last directed a project, so this is a big comeback for him.
The latest Sherlock Holmes series features a talented cast including Zine Tseng, Joseph Fiennes, Natascha McElhone, Colin Firth, and Max Irons. Matthew Parkhill is overseeing the show, and the story is adapted from the Young Sherlock Holmes novels by Andrew Lane.
Young Sherlock will premiere on Prime Video on March 4.
