8 More Essential Anime to Binge If You Love Naruto

Masashi Kishimoto’s manga, Naruto, which originally appeared in Weekly Shonen Jump, is considered one of the most important and popular manga series of all time. Starting in 1999, its compelling story, creative powers, detailed world, and exciting battles earned it a place among the “Shonen Big Three.” The anime adaptation, produced by Studio Pierrot and first released in 2002, further boosted the series’ popularity worldwide, becoming a global sensation. Even people who don’t typically watch anime likely recognize Naruto, the young ninja known for his orange jumpsuit.

The first part of the series ended in 2007, and was immediately followed by Naruto: Shippuden. This continuation picks up with the main character two and a half years later, facing even tougher battles. While it’s hard to find an anime quite as good as Naruto, many others capture a similar feeling. Comic Book recently highlighted 10 shows with that same spirit, but there are plenty more to explore.

8) Wistoria: Wand and Sword

Both main characters are defined by their determination to succeed, even when facing overwhelming challenges. Will Serfot, despite lacking magical abilities, enters a renowned Academy with the ambitious goal of becoming a Magia Vander – one of the five most powerful mages of his generation. He’s willing to overcome any obstacle because achieving this is his only hope of being reunited with the person he loves.

7) Wind Breaker

Both stories center around a main character who is an outcast, but keeps striving to find acceptance. In one series, Haruka Sakura, a high school student, transfers to Furin High hoping to become the toughest student. He quickly discovers, however, that the school’s rebellious students are actually working to defend their town from dangerous gangs.

6) King of Nabari

This exciting series features ninjas in a contemporary world, filled with fascinating characters. The story centers on Rokujo Miharu, a 14-year-old with a unique and powerful ability that various ninja clans are desperate to control, hoping to dominate the land of Nabari. Constantly threatened, Rokujo must team up with his classmate, Kouichi Aizawa, and their English teacher, Thobari Durandal, who are part of a clan sworn to protect him.

5) KenIchi: The Mightiest Disciple

Like many stories about striving for greatness, this anime shares a similar theme with Naruto. It’s a funny action series about Kenichi Shirahama, a high school student who’s secretly a skilled fighter but prefers reading. When he meets Miu Furinji, she introduces him to her grandfather’s martial arts dojo. Kenichi trains with various masters to become stronger, but it comes at a significant cost.

4) Jujutsu Kaisen

Fans of action-packed anime have noticed a lot of parallels between these two shows, particularly the fact that both main characters contain incredibly powerful and dangerous entities inside them. The dynamic between the three first-year students and their teacher in Jujutsu Kaisen also feels similar to the well-known Team 7. The story of Jujutsu Kaisen centers on Yuji Itadori and what happens after he becomes the host for a tremendously powerful ancient sorcerer.

3) Hell’s Paradise

Hell’s Paradise is a grimmer tale than Naruto, centering around Gabimaru, a highly skilled and merciless assassin from Iwagakure village. Facing execution for his crimes, he’s offered a deal: find the mythical Elixir of Life on a deadly, inescapable island, and earn his freedom. But Gabimaru isn’t alone in his quest – other condemned criminals are also searching for the elixir.

2) Bleach

Along with Naruto, Bleach is widely considered one of the best anime and manga series ever made. While Naruto centers on a character striving to become a leader, Bleach follows Ichigo Kurosaki as he fights to protect the world from dangerous spirits and supernatural forces. Despite their different paths, both heroes ultimately work to save the people around them.

1) Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

This series is still considered a classic for its gripping story, inspiring themes of determination and selflessness. The 2009 remake stays true to the original manga, telling the complete story in 64 episodes that move at a good pace. It’s a powerfully engaging story that examines the realities of war and what it means to be human, all while cleverly mixing in humor and well-developed characters.
