Justin Timberlake is fighting to maintain his privacy.
After the Grammy-winning artist was arrested for drunk driving in Long Island, New York in 2024, he asked a court to prevent the police from releasing body camera footage of the arrest to the public.
According to court filings obtained by MS Now, Justin Timberlake’s lawyers are trying to prevent the release of a video, arguing it shows personal information unrelated to any legitimate law enforcement or public interest matter.
According to his lawyer, the damage caused by public exposure – including shame, bullying, damage to his good name, and a lasting loss of privacy – happens quickly and can’t be fixed.
The *NSYNC alum’s legal team also said that the video captured personal moments beyond the arrest.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve seen firsthand how privacy is so important, and this case really highlights that. One of Justin Timberlake’s lawyers, Edward D. Burke Jr., recently argued in court that the bodycam footage released was excessive. He pointed out it wasn’t just a short clip – it was eight full hours of recording! He felt it went way too far, capturing incredibly personal moments and emotions that had absolutely nothing to do with the reason for Timberlake’s arrest. It’s about protecting someone’s private life and emotional wellbeing, and that’s something we all deserve.
In a letter dated March 1st to Sag Harbor’s police chief, Burke also pointed out that the video footage includes other people near Justin Timberlake, 45, who have a right to privacy.
Shortly after their filing, Timberlake’s attorney shared an update on their legal process.
Justin Timberlake asked a court to temporarily block the Village from taking action, and his lawyer released a statement to TopMob News explaining that a meeting was held yesterday with Justice Joseph Farneti in Suffolk County Supreme Court. Both the Village’s lawyer and Timberlake’s legal team were present. The judge didn’t make any decisions during the meeting, wanting to give both sides a chance to discuss a possible solution and for the Village to formally respond to the lawsuit.

Vincent Toomey, the Village of Sag Harbor’s lawyer, told NBC News that the police department had originally intended to publish the video footage, but with some parts hidden or removed.
TopMob News has contacted the Sag Harbor Police Department for comment, but they haven’t responded yet.
Justin Timberlake, who has two sons, 10-year-old Silas and 4-year-old Phineas, with his wife Jessica Biel, was released from custody a day after his arrest in June 2024. Police later charged him with driving under the influence following a court appearance.
Following the incident, Justin Timberlake admitted to a non-criminal traffic violation for driving under the influence, as reported by MS Now. He also agreed to pay a small fine and perform between 25 and 40 hours of community service.

Following his appearance in court, Timberlake expressed his regret over the situation.
Speaking to reporters in September 2024, he admitted he didn’t live up to his own high standards. He explained he could have made a different choice, but has since had time to consider the situation. He also noted that the attention from the media – everyone having a platform to share information – played a role in what happened.
Let me be really clear: even one drink is too many if you’re planning to drive. Seriously, please don’t do it. There are so many other options – call a cab, use a rideshare, ask a friend, anything! I’ve learned this lesson the hard way, and I’m sharing my experience hoping you’ll learn from my mistake and make the right choice. I know I have.
