I was really excited to hear some news about National Treasure 3! I saw Jerry Bruckheimer at the Producer’s Guild Awards, and TopMob got a quick chat with him on the red carpet. He was there celebrating his movie F1, but he also let slip that the National Treasure sequel is actually moving forward. He said the script is currently being worked on, which is awesome – there were already whispers last year that Disney was officially developing another film. In May 2024, producer Jerry Bruckheimer announced that Ted Elliott, also working on the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie, would be writing the script for National Treasure 3. Despite this, neither of these highly anticipated sequels has begun filming.
Jerry Bruckheimer recently shared encouraging news about National Treasure 3 with TopMob, following a 2025 update to The Wrap. He indicated they are making progress towards getting the movie made, with plans for Nicolas Cage to reprise his role and Jon Turteltaub to direct again.
Will National Treasure 3 Really Happen?
It’s been nearly twenty years since the last National Treasure movie came out. Disney has attempted to continue the series with streaming content, but those efforts haven’t been successful.
Now is the perfect time for beloved franchises to return, and we’re seeing a huge wave of nostalgia in entertainment. Disney’s upcoming releases prove this – they’re bringing back favorites like The Devil Wears Prada 2 in May, twenty years after the original, and Camp Rock 3 in the summer of 2026, more than fifteen years after the last movie.
Hollywood is eager to revive familiar and beloved movie series, especially when the original actors are involved. A third National Treasure film would likely depend on Nicolas Cage’s participation, but he recently told Screen Rant that a sequel isn’t happening, implying he’s unlikely to reprise his role and potentially ending the franchise.
It appears Jerry Bruckheimer wants Nicolas Cage to reprise his role as Ben Gates for another National Treasure movie. Cage may now be open to returning, especially considering recent progress on National Treasure 3.
