‘One Battle After Another’ Star Teyana Taylor Is “Begging” for a Sequel

Paul Thomas Anderson’s film starring Leonardo DiCaprio, titled ‘One Battle After Another,’ has been a major awards contender this year. It’s already won top prizes at events like the BAFTAs, Golden Globes, and Critics’ Choice Awards, and is a favorite to win big at the 98th Academy Awards, where it’s nominated for 13 Oscars, including Best Picture. The film’s success has sparked talk of a sequel, with both fans and cast members – especially Teyana Taylor, who plays Perfidia Beverly Hills – expressing interest in continuing the story.

Though Taylor had appeared in films since 2010, her role in One Battle After Another is seen as the performance that truly launched her career, establishing her as a major Hollywood star. In the film, she plays Perfidia, a radical activist who leads a group called French 75. Perfidia has a complicated past with Bob Ferguson (played by DiCaprio) and is the mother of Willa (Chase Infiniti). When Perfidia betrays them to avoid going to prison, the two are forced to live in hiding. Taylor won a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Oscar for her performance, so it’s no surprise she’s eager for director Anderson to make a sequel and revisit the character.

Wes Anderson rarely makes sequels, but recent comments from actress Taylor suggest he might be open to revisiting his film, One Battle After Another. Taylor shared her vision for a potential spin-off focused on her character, detailing a story that would explore the 16 years her character spent in exile in Mexico after the original film ended. She’s particularly interested in what happened with her daughter, Willa, and fulfilling her promise to reconnect when the time was right and safe. She shared these ideas with a media outlet, saying:

Everything is happening so fast, and I’ve been so caught up in the moment that I haven’t really stopped to think about how much more people want from the story. I’ve been making little comments to Paul, like we should look back at what happened with Perfidia during those years. But we definitely need to show more scenes with Perfidia and Willa together. When Willa left at the end, I started wondering where she was really going – if she’d free Deandra, or try to find her mother. I really like that the ending leaves things hopeful, and opens up possibilities for a sequel.

This is a developing story…
