Last week’s episode of Death in Paradise became especially tense when Mervin went to Antigua to reconcile with his brother Solomon, but instead ended up being held hostage.
Naomi urged him to go after learning the detective felt responsible for their falling out. Things had started badly – Solomon immediately asked the detective for a loan, and then stole from him when he said no. Eventually, Mervin confronted his unreliable brother about his behavior.
Ever since you appeared in my life, everything has changed. I’m a detective inspector – I shouldn’t be running after you,” he said, surprisingly letting a few tears fall. After that, Solomon made the decision to stay away.
Mervin still hoped he could fix things with Naomi, so he tried to reconcile with her. Unfortunately, his efforts failed. Meanwhile, Naomi became frantic when she learned something terrible had happened to Mervin, who was shown bound and held captive in an unfamiliar place.
In episode 6, the team quickly starts looking for their missing detective.
According to the official description, their plan might fail because they’ve been forced to work with Antiguan authorities, and a former coworker who holds a grudge is involved.
Selwyn was really upset to discover they had to ask Sterling Fox for help when things got difficult.
You can watch his unbearable reintroduction below.
Sterling joined the show in season 14, taking over for Selwyn, who was unexpectedly let go after dedicating 50 years to the program.
The chief commissioner quickly regretted his decision after discovering Sterling wasn’t up to the task. He offered Selwyn his old job back, but Selwyn declined. He’d lost his passion for the organization he’d spent his life serving.
Feeling energized after assisting the team with a case in last year’s Christmas special, he decided it was time to return as commissioner.
Selwyn isn’t in danger of losing his job, but being forced to confront his former enemy is a difficult experience on its own.
