New Hellboy Game Revealed (And It’s Happening This Year)

Hellboy, the popular monster hunter created by Mike Mignola, remains a beloved character after more than three decades. While famous for his comics and Guillermo del Toro’s movies, Hellboy has also appeared in several video games. After a long hiatus, a new Hellboy game is on the way this year, and it will feature many of the characters from his well-known universe.

Restoration Games is adding Hellboy to their popular Unmatched card game with Unmatched: Hellboy! They’ve also shared the beautiful cover art, which reveals all the playable characters: Hellboy, Liz Sherman, Abe Sapien, and Baby Yaga. Fans can look forward to the game’s release in the last three months of the year.

Unmatched: Hellboy Is A Longtime Fan’s Dream Game

Hellboy is a great franchise by itself, but combining it with the already popular game Unmatched takes things to a whole new level. If you haven’t played Unmatched before, it’s a game where each set focuses on a specific theme or franchise and includes 3-4 playable characters from that world, allowing you to have exciting battles.

Games like Battle of Legends let you play as famous characters – think Pandora, Blackbeard, Loki, and even the Chupacabra – with up to four players competing to win. The Unmatched series has expanded to include characters from The Witcher and Marvel, plus exciting matchups like Bruce Lee versus Muhammad Ali. You can also play as classic characters from Cobble & Fog, including Sherlock Holmes, Jekyll and Hyde, the Invisible Man, and Dracula.

In Unmatched: Hellboy, players will control Hellboy, Liz, Abe Sapien, and Baba Yaga – a diverse group with vastly different powers. This is perfect for the Unmatched series, which aims to make each character feel distinct in how they fight, what abilities they use, and how they move around the arena.

Hellboy will probably be a powerful, strong character, but he might not be very quick or have fast reflexes. I’m really interested to see how the game incorporates his demonic heritage and, of course, his famous Right Hand of Doom.

Liz Sherman, a longtime friend of Hellboy, might be the most powerful character in the game. Her ability to control fire is incredibly strong and could give her a lot of control over the battlefield in Unmatched, which nicely complements Hellboy’s strength and close-combat fighting style.

Abe Sapien, the popular amphibious hero, has a flexible skillset. For Unmatched, his strengths as a sharpshooter and his natural toughness – stemming from his physiology and ability to heal – translate well. While his water-based powers might not be a major focus, Restoration Games is capable of bringing any ability to life.

Baba Yaga is the last character in this group, and she might be second only to Liz in terms of raw power. She could control spirits to act as helpers, distracting opponents while she prepares her stronger attacks. Her magical lanterns might also play a role, but we’ll have to see how that develops. Either way, she’s shaping up to be a very difficult opponent.
