Xbox has done a great job ensuring most of its games that are also released on the PS5 Pro include special enhancements for that console right from the start. Sony hasn’t matched this level of support. Ideally, all Sony games should have these enhancements at launch, but they don’t. This is already a negative impression, but it’s made even worse by the fact that Xbox is releasing games on the PS5 Pro with better optimization and features than Sony is for its own console.
When MLB The Show 26 comes out on March 17th, it will cost $70 on both PS5 and the new PS5 Pro. However, the PlayStation Store currently indicates the PS5 Pro version won’t have any special enhancements. While this could change before next week’s release, it’s not likely. Even if support is added later, it won’t help players who buy the game at launch. In comparison, Xbox’s South of Midnight will be enhanced for PS5 Pro when it releases on March 31st, and it will be cheaper at $40.
Xbox Supporting the PS5 Pro More Than Sony Itself
While MLB The Show 26 likely won’t see as dramatic an improvement from the PS5 Pro as some other games – similar to what we’ve seen with titles like God of War Sons of Sparta and LEGO Horizon Adventures – it would still benefit from the upgrade. Even small improvements are worthwhile.
As a big fan, it’s really disappointing to see a lack of support for the current console – it feels like they’re not even giving it the basics! It also makes me worry that other developers won’t bother putting in extra effort for our platform either. And honestly, based on how things have gone before, I’m pretty sure we won’t see any special features for the PS5 Pro added to MLB The Show 26 even after the game is out. It’s frustrating!
Things aren’t likely to get better, as enough time has passed for improvement, but it hasn’t happened. Surprisingly, Sony isn’t requiring its studios or partners to prepare for the PS5 Pro.
