Viewers who enjoyed the first season of the horror series It: Welcome to Derry can anticipate even greater scares in Season 2. The show, recently recognized with a major award, promises to be even more terrifying than its acclaimed first season, according to the creator.
Andy Muschietti gives update on It: Welcome to Derry Season 2
At the 2026 Saturn Awards, Andy Muschietti, co-creator and executive producer of It: Welcome to Derry, gave fans a positive update about the show’s second season. The series had just won the award for Best Horror Television Series, surpassing nominees like The Last of Us and The Institute, another show based on a Stephen King story.
Speaking about the future of the ‘Derry’ series, director Muschietti said he’s aware fans are eagerly awaiting the next installment. He assured reporters that they plan to exceed expectations with what’s coming (according to Screenrant).
The producer’s optimism arrives at a crucial time for the show’s prequel. While the series has received positive reviews and awards, HBO hasn’t officially announced a second season yet. However, the delay doesn’t seem to be because of how well the show is doing.
HBO CEO Casey Bloys recently confirmed the show is still moving forward, despite rumors of problems. He said the first season of ‘It: Welcome to Derry’ was very successful, making a second season a natural choice for the network. Bloys also stated that Andy and Barbara Muschietti are currently working on ideas for the new season and that the project is definitely not stalled.
Although it hasn’t been officially confirmed, the creators have already planned a long-term story arc for the show. The showrunners, Jason Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane, have suggested a three-season structure that would delve into different periods of Pennywise’s frightening appearances in Derry.
Following a successful first season, It: Welcome to Derry is set to significantly build upon its terrifying story in season two.
