These days, a lot of gaming revolves around revisiting older titles – either through complete remakes, updated remasters, or simple ports. While games like Final Fantasy 7 Remake successfully reintroduced a beloved classic to both longtime fans and a new generation, it’s not realistic to think every old game will get the same treatment. Many highly-regarded titles from the past may never return, often because of legal issues or because the series has changed significantly over time.
Many gaming franchises thought to be finished are actually making comebacks thanks to dedicated fans. If players show enough enthusiasm for an older game, developers will often respond. A great example is the Marvel vs Capcom series, which Capcom revived with the Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection after being limited to older console versions. Often, fans simply want a way to play classic games on modern devices – whether it’s a port to PC, a remaster, or just a version that overcomes the limitations of older technology.
5. Bloodborne

It’s looking unlikely that Bloodborne will return in the near future, primarily because of disagreements between the game’s developer, FromSoftware, and Sony. Bloodborne is considered one of FromSoftware’s best action RPGs, known for its distinctive Victorian world, quick combat, and unique weapons. Since it was originally released only for PlayStation 4, fans have long hoped for a version that overcomes the console’s hardware limitations.
Despite working on PlayStation 5, Bloodborne still has older graphics and runs at only 30 frames per second, often with noticeable stuttering and performance problems. This has led fans to strongly request a version for PC or a visually updated version of the game. Recent internal reports, following the closing of Bluepoint Studios (the team behind the Demon’s Souls remake), suggest that Bluepoint expected to work on a Bloodborne remaster or remake after being acquired by Sony, but FromSoftware, the original developer, rejected their proposals.
According to internal reports, FromSoftware has turned down over ten proposals from Sony for a remake of Bloodborne. This reluctance likely stems from the developers’ deep respect for the original game, which was a significant departure from their typical style – similar to how Elden Ring later innovated the genre. Because of this strong attachment, FromSoftware probably won’t consider any new Bloodborne projects until they feel the time is absolutely right.
4. Fallout 1 & 2

The first two Fallout games are fantastic computer role-playing games that capture what developers were aiming for back then: bringing the experience of tabletop role-playing to the screen. They’re known for their detailed worlds and characters, and they first introduced the post-apocalyptic wasteland that fans would come to love in later games. However, the existence of those sequels is the main reason we’ll likely never see a remake of the originals.
The direction of the Fallout series changed dramatically with Fallout 3. It moved away from traditional computer role-playing games and became an open-world action-adventure game with first-person shooting. Developed by Bethesda Studios, Fallout 3 revitalized the series and led to popular sequels like Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout 4, both of which offer expansive exploration of unique post-apocalyptic landscapes. While New Vegas tried to recapture the RPG feel of the earlier games, this major shift in style means that the original Fallout and Fallout 2 are now less well-known.
3. Dino Crisis

Lately, many new games have been released that involve fighting dinosaurs, like Capcom’s Exoprimal and the soon-to-be-released Turok Origins from Saber Interactive. This trend actually started with Dino Crisis, a survival horror game Capcom created in 1999. Similar in style to the Resident Evil series, Dino Crisis wasn’t flawless, but it featured a memorable main character and solid gameplay that fans have long hoped would return.
With the success of games like Resident Evil Requiem, it’s becoming less likely that Dino Crisis will make a comeback. What once felt exciting about surviving against dinosaurs might not appeal to players today, making a new Dino Crisis game a tough sell. While it could be successfully reimagined like Resident Evil 2, the fact that other similar games, such as Tokyo Scramble, already exist suggests Dino Crisis might remain forgotten.
2. Chrono Trigger

Many consider Chrono Trigger a timeless masterpiece and the perfect example of a Japanese Role-Playing Game (JRPG). However, its incredible reputation also makes it difficult to update or remake – the developers worry any changes could ruin what makes it so special. While Square Enix has been updating other classic JRPGs like Dragon Quest with modern graphics, a similar update for Chrono Trigger seems unlikely.
The difficulty in re-releasing Chrono Trigger stems from two main issues: the original developers no longer providing support, and complex legal problems regarding the game’s artwork and music. The game’s iconic character designs were created by Akira Toriyama, the renowned creator of Dragon Ball. Following his passing in 2024, a remake or remaster seems even less likely, meaning the game will probably remain as it currently is.
1. Titanfall

The Titanfall series, especially Titanfall 2, is highly influential in the first-person shooter genre. The original Titanfall introduced many features—like fluid, omnidirectional movement, wall-running, and fast sprinting—that are now common in other FPS games. However, after its 2014 release, the original Titanfall hasn’t been revisited. This is partly because its developer, Respawn Entertainment, moved on to focus on the ongoing game Apex Legends, but other reasons also contributed to this decision.
Even though Titanfall 2 is still a highly praised first-person shooter, many fans believe the original Titanfall deserves a comeback. Unfortunately, Electronic Arts (EA) seems unwilling to approve any new Titanfall projects, like a remake, remaster, or even a sequel to Titanfall 2. Despite strong fan demand, EA prefers to have Respawn Entertainment focus on other games.
While many people enjoyed the epic mech and soldier combat in Titanfall, it wasn’t as popular as Apex Legends is today. Because Apex Legends is doing so well, it’s unlikely we’ll see a significant return to the original Titanfall.
