It appears that the third season of “The Teacher” on Channel 5, which was previously headed by actors like Sheridan Smith and Kara Tointon, will not only be coming back but will also introduce a fresh main character as a new lead.
Confirmed is that Victoria Hamilton, famous for her performances in Doctor Foster, COBRA, and The Crown, will assume the lead role in The Teacher season 3 as esteemed drama teacher Helen.
Based on her character description, Helen finds it challenging to meet contemporary societal norms in an esteemed private educational institution.
Lately advanced to the role of Drama Head, Helen encounters resistance from vocal student Cressida upon tripping over student Dee’s appropriate pronouns and advocating for the study of Shakespeare instead of contemporary, progressive plays.

A bitter rivalry arises unexpectedly between a teacher and a student, and after a dispute with Helen, Dee takes her own life. In retaliation, Cressida uses extortion to force Helen to pay for her supposed outdated beliefs.
Amidst the escalating conflict and with her surroundings collapsing, Helen struggles to maintain her family and profession, fearing she may lose it all.
If you’re acquainted with Hamilton’s latest character in Unforgotten on ITV, the character of Helen bears a resemblance to her portrayal of Juliet Cooper, a history lecturer and faculty head, in certain aspects.
As a cinephile, I couldn’t help but notice the striking resemblance between the character played by Nicola Hamilton in Unforgotten and her own predicament in real life. In Unforgotten, her character found herself in hot water with the student body due to offensive language and was temporarily barred from her position at a prestigious London university – eerily reminiscent of her own suspension.
In the latest installment of the fifth series, it appears that we’ll delve deeper into Helen’s tale, as her work and personal life intertwine and the challenges she faces become increasingly significant.
In the initial installment of The Teacher, the main character portrayed by Sheridan Smith, a teacher, faced allegations of having an affair with one of her students following a late-night excursion. The subsequent season revolved around Dani Osborne, played by Kara Tointon, who found herself entangled in a complex murder plot that not only jeopardized her position as an art teacher but also her marriage.
Currently, more details about additional cast members are expected to be revealed. However, it seems likely that Hamilton will fit perfectly into the upcoming mystery thriller, guaranteed to keep audiences on the edge of their seats with its unexpected plot developments.
Most people might remember Suranne Jones, particularly from her portrayal of neighbor Anna Baker in Doctor Foster, a character she played again in the 2020 BBC series titled simply ‘Life’.
More recently, she has been featured prominently in productions such as Deep State and COBRA. Additionally, she has previously appeared in Lark Rise to Candleford, The Time of Your Life, and Babyfather.
As an enthusiast, I can’t wait to share more details as soon as we lock down the production timeline and release date. Stay tuned!
