Invincible Creators Explain Lee Pace’s Perfect Casting as Season 4’s All-Powerful Villain (& The WWE Superstar Who Inspired It) [Exclusive]

Season four of Invincible is highly anticipated for 2026, and with good reason. After Mark Grayson’s brutal battle with Conquest, an even more powerful enemy is emerging: Thragg, the emperor of the Viltrumites. While Invincible has faced many Viltrumites before, Thragg will be his greatest challenge yet. Recently, egmr.ru spoke with the show’s creators, Robert Kirkman and Simon Racioppa, about this new villain and the unexpected involvement of World Wrestling Entertainment in bringing him to the screen.

I was so fascinated to hear the showrunners talk about how they approached Thragg! They really wanted Lee Pace to embody a quiet, almost serene power – that sense of comfort and control he has is just amazing. They kept referencing Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts as a huge inspiration, which blew my mind! Apparently, they felt both actors convey power without needing to be loud or overly dramatic – it’s all about that mesmerizing, understated presence. It’s such a cool way to think about the character and how they wanted to portray him.

Thragg The Snake Roberts

If you don’t follow professional wrestling, you might not know who Jake “The Snake” Roberts is. He became a major star in the WWF (now WWE) starting in 1986, facing famous wrestlers like Randy “Macho Man” Savage and “Rowdy” Roddy Piper. True to his nickname, Roberts famously brought a python to the ring, sometimes even using it to win matches. Although he battled addiction for many years, he eventually overcame his struggles, and his journey to recovery was chronicled in the film, The Resurrection of Jake The Snake.

Fans of the Invincible comic know Thragg will be an even bigger threat than Conquest, not just to Mark Grayson, but to the entire universe. He’s incredibly powerful – easily the strongest villain the series has seen – and will severely test the Coalition of Planets if the show stays true to the comic. Viewers will get to see Thragg in action when season four begins releasing episodes weekly starting March 18th. Amazon will initially release the first three episodes next week, though some fans might prefer if the whole season dropped at once.
