I’m really excited to hear that NC America, the US part of NCSoft, is teaming up with emptyvessel to publish their new cyberpunk shooter, DEFECT! It’s awesome news, but unfortunately, they haven’t said when we’ll actually get to play it yet. No release date announced so far, which is a little frustrating, but I’m still hyped!
We’re thrilled to partner with NCSoft, which solidifies our plan to launch DEFECT globally with a powerful partner by our side,” said Emanuel Palalic, CEO of emptyvessel. “NCSoft is providing valuable support and expertise as we develop a compelling single-player experience for DEFECT. Their commitment to single-player games is especially encouraging, as many publishers are shifting away from this type of content, and we appreciate their confidence in our vision.”
Jeonghee Jin, CEO of NC America and COO of NC West/ArenaNet, stated that her company has supported the game’s development since the beginning, providing initial funding and ultimately agreeing to publish it. She expressed excitement about the partnership, saying she’s confident that DEFECT‘s fast-paced action will stand out in the competitive first-person shooter market.
I’ve been following DEFECT since it was first announced a couple of years ago, and I’m really excited about it! From what I understand, it’s a team-based shooter where you work with your friends to complete objectives – perfect for anyone who loves co-op. I just heard they’ve partnered with NC America to help build out the multiplayer side of things, which is awesome, and they’re still working on a solid single-player experience too. It sounds like they’re really covering all the bases!
The team creating the new shooter is full of experienced developers. Many of them have worked on popular, high-profile games like DOOM, Quake, Call of Duty, and The Last of Us.
In the dystopian world of DEFECT, players will battle in multiplayer matches with four teams of four. Expect fast-paced, close-range combat with multiple objectives, utilizing futuristic weapons and technology. A robust single-player campaign will also be available for players who prefer to play solo.
The core gameplay focuses on realism, removing on-screen displays (HUDs) and requiring players to observe their surroundings for crucial information. The developers drew inspiration from classic games like SWAT and more modern titles such as Ready or Not. This design extends to the environments themselves, allowing players to destroy walls and other structures using weapons and tools to create new tactical opportunities.
Players can choose to play as different groups, like the city’s police, rebel cops, or various gangs. Missions will involve either causing chaos – such as eliminating key figures or moving illegal weapons – or maintaining order by supporting the established authorities.
