Crocodile’s Devil Fruit, Backstory & Real Plan In One Piece Live-Action Explained

Season 2 of One Piece hints at the arrival of a new big bad – Crocodile. The season finale reveals Crocodile, the head of Baroque Works, and finally shows us Joe Manganiello as the character, after teasing his appearance as the mysterious Mr. 0 throughout the eight episodes.

Crocodile reveals himself to Miss All Sunday, who is actually Nico Robin, and announces that Baroque Works is starting Operation Utopia. This begins the events of One Piece season 3, where Crocodile strengthens his control over Alabasta as the Straw Hat Pirates and Vivi work to defeat him.

The ending of One Piece season 2 leaves viewers with many unanswered questions about Crocodile, Nico Robin, and their connection to Baroque Works, especially regarding their goals in Alabasta. Although a minor detail in the One Piece manga suggests Crocodile is also searching for the legendary treasure, like Luffy, this doesn’t explain his past, abilities, or the full extent of his plans.

Which Devil Fruit Crocodile Has In One Piece

Let’s discuss why Crocodile is such a dangerous opponent in the world of One Piece. While his leadership of Baroque Works makes him a formidable villain, he’s more complex than he appears. Like many characters in One Piece, Crocodile has special abilities granted by a Devil Fruit.

While not fully explained yet in Netflix’s One Piece, season 3 will likely delve into Crocodile’s Devil Fruit power. This fruit, called the Suna-Suna no Mi (or Sand-Sand Fruit), allows Crocodile to transform his body into sand.

Season 2 of One Piece introduced characters with powers like Smoker, who can transform into smoke. Crocodile’s abilities are quite similar, and he has a few other powers thanks to his Devil Fruit. He can create huge sandstorms, and even drain the moisture from living things just by touching them.

Crocodile, the villain, can manipulate sand to form weapons like scythes and swords. Since the next season of One Piece is mostly set in the desert kingdom of Alabasta, his powers will make him a very dangerous enemy for Luffy, Vivi, and the Straw Hat Pirates.

Crocodile Is A Member Of The Seven Warlords

Crocodile is a particularly dangerous foe, not just because of his Devil Fruit abilities and his position as the leader of Baroque Works. He’s also one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, a powerful group that has been hinted at throughout the first two seasons of One Piece. We’ve even seen one of them, Dracule Mihawk, appear on screen before.

As a huge fan of One Piece, I’ve always been fascinated by the Shichibukai, or Seven Warlords of the Sea. They’re basically pirates the World Government lets off the hook for their crimes! We get a hint of this back in season 2 with Crocodile – the ending scene shows his bounty was actually canceled. It turns out, they get this deal – their bounties are removed in exchange for working with the Government as Warlords.

The Warlords operate much like pirates, with a lot of freedom, but they actually work for the World Government. This allows the government to control even the most chaotic situations by using pirates to fight other pirates. Essentially, they lessen the pirate threat and prevent other issues that could cause trouble, like the schemes of Crocodile.

The World Government doesn’t realize that Crocodile is actually Mr. 0, the shadowy leader of the criminal organization Baroque Works. Under this alias, he’s been creating trouble around the world of One Piece, especially in the country of Alabasta, all to achieve his own goals. He uses his official position as a Warlord to appear as a hero to the people of Alabasta, masking his true intentions.

What Crocodile Really Wants With Alabasta

This raises the question of why Crocodile is tricking both the World Government and the kingdom of Alabasta by using the organization Baroque Works to try and take over the latter. While the full explanation hasn’t been shown yet in the Netflix version of One Piece, it appears they’re making a slight adjustment to his motivations. In the original story, Crocodile doesn’t really care about finding the One Piece, but the show seems to be portraying him as someone who does.

It’s unclear if Crocodile’s recent actions are permanent or a temporary deception, but the Netflix adaptation of One Piece will likely delve into what truly drives him. As hinted at in his plans, Crocodile aims to control Alabasta, a powerful and important kingdom, believing it’s the key to building his ideal society.

However, Crocodile has hidden goals. It’s believed that Alabasta holds a very powerful weapon, and Crocodile wants it. If he gets his hands on it, he could become much more dangerous, expand his influence beyond Alabasta, and even try to take over the World Government.

Pluton is a legendary and incredibly powerful warship said to be able to obliterate islands. This is the real reason Crocodile targeted Alabasta. While he wants the power that comes with controlling a kingdom, Pluton is his ultimate objective.

Season 3 of One Piece will show the villain continuing to create chaos in Alabasta, hoping to easily take control. But after what happened in season 2, Crocodile now knows the Straw Hat Pirates are powerful and have promised to protect Alabasta, which will be the main struggle in the upcoming Netflix season.
