Kate Winslet is set to join the cast of The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.
According to Deadline, the British actress who won an Oscar will star as the main female character in the upcoming movie, but details about her specific part haven’t been revealed yet.
According to the publication, producers Andy Serkis and Peter Jackson worked for much of last year to convince Kate Winslet to join the movie. Filming her part will require her and her family to move to New Zealand from late May to October.
I’m really excited to see Kate Winslet joining the cast! Andy Serkis is back, not only to reprise his incredible performance as Gollum, but he’s also directing this time around. And it sounds like we’ll be seeing some familiar faces – Sir Ian McKellen is definitely returning as Gandalf, and the buzz is that Elijah Wood will be back as Frodo too. It’s shaping up to be a fantastic reunion!
In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, Elijah Wood didn’t explicitly say he’d reprise his role as Frodo, but he strongly implied he’d be the only one to do so if he were still able and willing.
This new movie takes place between the events of The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring. It tells the story of Aragorn’s journey to find a mysterious character before that character can tell Sauron where the Ring is hidden.
Warner Bros. Discovery announced in May 2024 that they are making a new movie called The Hunt for Gollum. This film will be the first in a series of new Middle-earth movies, and will feature original stories not previously adapted for the screen.
The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum will be released in cinemas on 17 December 2027.
