For decades, the Mobile Suit Gundam series has created many different timelines and worlds. While the franchise often explores new settings, like in Gundam: The Witch From Mercury, it frequently returns to the original universe, known as “Universal Century.” This year, a new movie set in the Universal Century was released in Japan, and a recently released trailer is building excitement among fans worldwide. Surprisingly, the trailer offers a glimpse of what it would be like to actually pilot a Gundam.
A new trailer has been released alongside the movie’s showings in MX4D and 4DX – formats that offer a much more immersive experience than typical movie theaters. These screenings don’t just show the film; the seats move in sync with the action! According to the official website, MX4D and 4DX use effects like vibrations, wind, smoke, and even water spray to stimulate your senses and make you feel like you’re actually in the world of Gundam. These special screenings begin on Friday, March 13th, following last week’s release in Dolby Cinema®. You can watch the new trailer below.
What is Hathaway up to in Gundam?
The Japanese film Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe earned over 14 million USD in Japan since its release in January. Given this success, it’s likely the movie will be released in Western countries, though a specific date hasn’t been announced yet. Like other Gundam films, it will probably be shown as a special event for a limited time – perhaps just one or two nights in theaters – if it comes to the West.
Wow, where do I even begin with Noa Hathaway? Last time around, he got completely thrown into this huge war between the Earth Federation and a bunch of rebels! Hathaway’s Flash left him determined to take down the Federation, which is pretty shocking – it basically puts him on the same side as Char! What’s so cool about this series is how Noa is positioned as the next generation after both Amuro and Char, and it feels like he’s really embraced that role. Even though this is the second film, Hathaway’s Flash is actually planned as a trilogy, faithfully adapting the story from the original light novels.
The story of Hathaway is just one of many anime projects planned for the Gundam franchise. Gundam consistently releases new anime series and movies to broaden its universe, and despite the third Hathaway film not having a confirmed release date, it’s clear the franchise shows no signs of stopping anytime soon.
