Newest Entry In Popular 30-Year-Old Series Announced for PC & Console

1996 was an incredible year for gaming, as several beloved series are celebrating their 30th anniversaries. Alongside classics like Pokémon, long-running franchises such as Tomb Raider and Resident Evil all began three decades ago. But those aren’t the only games marking the milestone – Harvest Moon, the series that first sparked my love for farming simulators, also debuted in 1996 with its initial release in Japan. Excitingly, a new game in the series has just been announced!

Natsume announced the latest game in the Harvest Moon series on March 11th. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), they revealed Harvest Moon: Echoes of Teradea is coming to PC (via Steam), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and the new Switch 2. The announcement included the first details about the game and some preview screenshots. From what’s been shared, this installment seems to be taking a slightly different approach than recent Harvest Moon titles.

Harvest Moon: Echoes of Teadea Confirmed for PC & Console

The Harvest Moon series has a bit of a tangled history. It all started with the original Harvest Moon game for the SNES in 1996 (released in North America in 1997), which introduced many players to the fun of farming simulations and launched a long-running franchise. However, it actually became two long-running series. In 2012, Harvest Moon 3D: A New Beginning was the last Harvest Moon game made by Marvelous, the original creators. After that, the publisher Natsume continued making Harvest Moon games, while Marvelous created a new series called Story of Seasons.

Recent Harvest Moon games keep the classic name and familiar farming and life simulation gameplay. Natsume continues to release new games in this series, starting with Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley in 2014, with new installments appearing every few years. The mobile game Harvest Moon: Home Sweet Home was recently released on Nintendo Switch in 2025, and now a completely new Harvest Moon game is coming, marking the first since 2023.

The latest installment in the Harvest Moon series, Harvest Moon: Echoes of Teradea, will be the ninth game developed under Natsume. Continuing the farming simulation gameplay that started in 1996 with the original Harvest Moon, this new game is set in the misty land of Teradea. A dangerous plague of wild wolves roams the land at night, and players will have the task of taming them to safeguard Bloomfield Village. Echoes of Teradea is planned for release on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and the upcoming Switch 2, though a specific release date hasn’t been announced yet.

It sounds like this new game will feature classic farming elements with a unique addition. Early images show a beautiful farm, but also a mysterious forest and a cute wolf. Being able to tame wolves is a step beyond the usual farm animals, suggesting the developers have listened to feedback on recent Harvest Moon games. After some players found Home Sweet Home disappointing, many are hoping this next game will be a return to the series’ roots.
