A trailer shown at The Game Awards 2025 emphasized the game’s intense combat and gripping crime story.

There’s a real possibility that the game may never be released. Nagoshi Studio was being funded by NetEase, a major gaming company, but Bloomberg reports they’ve decided to withdraw their support. This is because completing the game is now estimated to cost over $44 million. The studio has until May to secure new funding if they want to finish the game and keep the rights to it. This is a significant setback for Nagoshi Studio, who have been developing the game for years, and disappointing news for fans of the Yakuza series who were eagerly anticipating it.

It’d Be A Shame If Gamers Never Got To Play Gang Of Dragon

The trailer for Gang of Dragon suggests a return to the more serious, dramatic style of earlier Yakuza games. Recent Yakuza titles have been known for their over-the-top and fun approach, but they’ve moved away from the gritty crime dramas that first made the series popular. This follows news that Tencent, another major company, withdrew funding from Highguard, leading to that game’s cancellation.
