Doja Cat is getting into her insecurities.
She’s now wondering if her decision to get liposuction on her thighs and buttocks in 2023 might have been unnecessary, as she suspects she may actually have lipedema—a condition that causes unusual fat to build up in the legs and hips.
The rapper revealed in a TikTok video on March 9th that lipedema is a condition that runs in her family, and she previously mistook it for cellulite.
Doja Cat, whose full name is Amala Dlamini, recalls developing curves in her early teens, but still having a small waist.
“It wasn’t like a horrible thing. I just felt like it stuck out,” she continued. “I had big ass knees.”
Doja Cat has spoken about being teased for having fuller legs. She remembered wanting a custom latex outfit for her “Go to Town” video, but the maker told her her measurements seemed impossible.
The Grammy-winning artist shared a funny story about someone comparing her appearance to Squidward from Spongebob Squarepants after he ‘ate the Krabby Patties and gained weight in his thighs’.
She explained that this is how lipedema presents itself. She wasn’t significantly overweight, but noticed a disproportionate buildup of fat in her buttocks, ankles, calves, knees, and thighs – a large amount in those areas.
Doja Cat believes she was likely in the early stages of lipedema when she had liposuction, but no one ever mentioned the condition to her.

Doja Cat recently joked that her backside looks a little strange, jokingly attributing it to having a large butt for a long time.
She explained that the excess skin was a result of losing a lot of weight. She likes wearing tights because they help hold everything in place.
Doja Cat explained that while procedures like liposuction can be a concern, she believes her recent physical changes are likely due to fluid buildup, which can be addressed in various ways.
