Pokémon Pokopia Has Sold More Than 2.2 Million Copies in Four Days

I’m so excited to hear that Pokémon Pokopia is already a huge hit! The Pokémon Company and Nintendo just announced it’s sold over 2.2 million copies in just four days. It launched on the Nintendo Switch 2 on March 5th, and amazingly, about a million of those copies were bought in Japan! That’s incredible news for any Pokémon fan like me.

The news follows a wave of excellent reviews for the game, which currently has a score of 89 on Metacritic based on 68 critic reviews. Players are also enjoying it, giving it an average score of 8.5 out of 10 from over 700 user reviews.

A report released this week showed that the popularity of Pokémon Pokopia has boosted Nintendo’s stock prices by about 10%. The game has also been hard to find in stores, with many retailers in the US currently sold out.

Jeffries analyst Atul Goyal described Pokémon Pokopia as a hugely popular game that has helped offset concerns about declining player memory and boosted sales of the Nintendo Switch 2.

Tokyo securities analyst Hideko Yasuda described Pokémon Pokopia as an unexpected success, pointing out that it hadn’t been noticed by many people, which makes its popularity all the more impressive. He also highlighted its broad appeal, noting it’s become popular from Japan all the way to Canada.

I was honestly so surprised when I first saw Pokémon Pokopia! It’s totally different from what you usually expect in a Pokémon game, and it feels a lot more like Animal Crossing. You play as a Ditto who’s transformed into a kid, and right away, you’re collecting stuff to build tools and even your own house. It’s a really cool change of pace!

As you play, you’ll discover and team up with various Pokémon, each with special talents. For instance, Bulbasaur can help plants grow, providing you with resources. If you need to clear areas, Charmander’s fire abilities are perfect for the job.

I was really excited to hear the game director, Takuto Edagawa, talk about how long the main story would be – he said it’s probably between 20 and 40 hours, which sounds perfect! But what’s even better is that he also mentioned there’s a ton to do after you finish the story, so it doesn’t just end when the credits roll. That’s awesome!

The idea behind the game is to build and live in a world alongside Pokémon. While a typical playthrough will likely take between 20 and 40 hours, the actual time will vary depending on how players approach the game. And even after the credits roll, there’s still plenty more to discover and do, according to the developer.

Whether players will keep playing really depends on what they enjoy about the game, but we think they’ll be motivated to continue doing so.
