These words of wisdom are signed by order of the Peaky Blinders.
Cillian Murphy, known for his role in Peaky Blinders, has relied on certain principles throughout his acting career. He considers them so valuable that he’s told his 18-year-old son, Aran, who is starting his own career, that they’re among the best advice he can offer.
Cillian Murphy, 49, shared a story with TopMob News about an early acting experience. He recalled rushing to get to a pub after a performance when he accidentally dropped his costume. An older actor then gave him some advice: ‘Always, always hang up your costume.’ He shared this anecdote during a joint interview with his co-star, Tim Roth.
Cillian Murphy explained that when someone tells an actor to ‘break a leg,’ it’s a reminder that they’re just one part of a much larger production. He said it’s not just about finishing the performance, but recognizing all the people working behind the scenes – the technicians, stage managers, and everyone else – who make the show happen. He’s always remembered that he’s just one piece of the puzzle.
While Aran, the younger of Cillian Murphy and Yvonne McGuinness’s two children, is new to acting, his father Tim is very familiar with seeing his children pursue the same career. Having an older son, Jack Roth, who is also an actor, Tim readily shared his positive and encouraging perspective.

He stressed that a ‘no’ doesn’t necessarily mean rejection, but rather that something better is on its way. If someone turns you down, it simply means you’re still open to opportunities and the right one will eventually come along. Don’t get discouraged; it will find you when the time is right.
Tim was free when Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders, reached out about his new film. This was four years after the popular TV show had finished.
The 64-year-old actor readily took on the role of Beckett, a character who supports Nazi ideology and comes to Birmingham with a mission for the Peaky Blinders gang. This puts him in direct conflict with Cillian Murphy’s famous character, Tommy Shelby, who has since left the criminal life.
Although Sophie Rundle, Stephen Graham, Ned Dennehy, and Packy Lee are returning cast members, Tim found it beneficial to approach the show as an outsider. This made sense because his character, Beckett, wasn’t particularly focused on what the Shelby family was doing in Small Heath.

He chose not to watch any previews, wanting to experience the story with a completely open mind. As he explained, his character wouldn’t have known those people either, so it made sense to go in knowing nothing.
He told Steven he knew the character well enough to ask for one important change: he wanted the character’s background changed from wealthy and aristocratic to something more like a typical working-class teacher. As Tim joked, an upper-class character wouldn’t have lasted long – he’d have been immediately thrown out!
The actor from Lie to Me knew the show had a fantastic history and a stellar cast. Over the years, many well-known stars, including Sam Neill, Tom Hardy, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Adrien Brody, appeared on it.

Tim highlighted that the show has a history of attracting talented and enjoyable guests and crew. He described the atmosphere as being surrounded by great people, and needing to bring your best to match them.
Joining Tim in the new cast were Rebecca Ferguson and Barry Keoghan, who already had a good understanding of how the show was made.
He told TopMob that he was a huge fan of the show and really wanted to be involved. He’d been hoping for the opportunity for a while.
Okay, so before he even thought about becoming Duke Shelby in that amazing prequel movie – the one set way back in the 1940s, and playing Tommy’s… well, basically his lost son – he completely immersed himself in the original series. I mean, he re-watched everything! All nine seasons that aired on BBC and Netflix between 2013 and 2022. He needed to know the world inside and out before taking on such a huge role. It was dedication, I tell you! Pure dedication to getting it right.
Honestly, part of me always hoped to hold onto a bit of that innocent perspective, but I’ve moved past wanting to actually go back to it. I’m ready to put my own spin on things now – something strong and authentic, that really feels like me.

Barry had long dreamed of wearing a flat cap, and it finally happened—possibly because he wished it into existence. The actor, known for his role in Saltburn, wasn’t just cast as Tommy’s oldest son; he was actually sending Cillian Murphy a Father’s Day text when Cillian asked if he’d be interested in joining the cast of the film.
Barry said he’d been hoping to collaborate with Cillian again, and they’d kept in touch over the years. He mentioned that Cillian actually reached out to him on the day things came together, which was a lucky coincidence.
Rebecca, who plays Duke’s aunt Kaulo, had a different take on the situation. She told him it wasn’t that the director specifically sought him out, but rather that he texted about being interested in the role just a day before the offer came.

This exciting thriller centers around a mysterious jewel thief (Chris Hemsworth) who partners with an insurance broker for a final, daring robbery. The film also stars Halle Berry, Mark Ruffalo, Monica Barbaro, and Barry Keoghan.

I’m so excited about this new movie! It’s from the same incredible team that brought us Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and it looks amazing. It’s an animated comedy set in a world entirely populated by animals, and it follows this little goat named Will who gets a shot at playing roarball. Apparently, it’s a really tough, full-contact sport where the biggest, strongest animals compete. Plus, Stephen Curry, Gabrielle Union, and Caleb McLaughlin are all involved – I can’t wait to see it!
