For a truly frightening experience, look no further than HBO Max. They have a fantastic collection of horror movies, consistently offering some of the best in the genre, including popular franchises like The Conjuring Universe and Halloween. Starting this March, HBO Max subscribers can also enjoy every film in one of the most legendary horror series of all time.
All five of the original Final Destination movies, plus the recent Final Destination: Bloodlines, are now available to stream on HBO Max. The series, where death itself is the villain, began with a script originally written for The X-Files called “Flight 180.” It was later developed into the first film by X-Files writers Glen Morgan and James Wong in 2000. The core concept revolves around the idea that death is unavoidable, and anyone who escapes their fate will meet with increasingly elaborate and gruesome accidents.
The Final Destination Franchise Keeps Proving That It’s One of the Most Enduring Horror Film Series
When Final Destination came out in 2000, no one imagined how popular and long-lasting it would become. Instead of featuring a typical villain, the movie changed horror by making Death itself the unstoppable threat. This unseen, all-powerful, and sinister force caused intricate accidents, creating a thrilling formula that audiences loved. The film made $112 million at the box office on a $23 million budget and launched a hugely successful horror series that has continued with new installments every ten years since the original.
The Final Destination movies have had their ups and downs in terms of critical reception – some have been poorly reviewed, like The Final Destination (28% on Rotten Tomatoes), while others, such as Final Destination Bloodlines (92%), have been quite successful. However, they consistently deliver entertaining horror. The films are famous for their incredibly detailed and inventive death sequences, turning ordinary activities – like riding an escalator or driving – into terrifying scenarios. The anthology format keeps the series feeling new, while still maintaining its signature dark style. With a seventh film already planned, it seems Death isn’t finished with the Final Destination universe anytime soon.
Other Horror Movies Now on HBO Max
HBO Max is offering a fantastic selection of horror films this March. On March 1st, they added the entire Final Destination series, all three Blair Witch movies, Happy Death Day, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, the 2022 film Men, and the original The Bride of Frankenstein, along with many other great movies.
