Filming has officially wrapped on Guarding Stars, the upcoming Netflix movie starring Jared Padalecki (known from Supernatural and Walker) and Leighton Meester (Good Cop/Bad Cop, I Love LA). Netflix hasn’t announced a release date yet, but production is now complete.
Jared Padalecki announced his departure from Calgary with an Instagram post. He shared a snowy selfie taken on the city streets, along with a picture of his packed bags – including his guitar – to show he was heading home after finishing work on the movie Guarding Stars. Padalecki mentioned he enjoyed the beautiful scenery, but wasn’t thrilled about the cold weather.
Jared Padalecki Wants Less Snow Next Time
He expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome he received while visiting, jokingly referring to himself as an ‘annoying Texan.’ He praised the hospitality of the people he met and said he had a wonderful time, hoping they all enjoyed the visit as much as he did and that they’ll have a chance to reconnect soon.
The actor jokingly added, “(P.S. If you don’t mind me saying, could we maybe have a little less snow next time? It was beautiful, but it was really, really cold.”
Guarding Stars Is Based on The Bodyguard
Guarding Stars is based on Katherine Center’s 2022 novel, The Bodyguard. The title was changed to avoid confusion with a different film of the same name. This Christmas movie features Jared Padalecki as a popular actor and Blake Lively Meester as the bodyguard assigned to protect him. As they work together, a romantic connection develops, complicated by unexpected challenges during their assignment.
Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum, known for directing films like Aquamarine and Purple Hearts, is directing Guarding Stars. The screenplay is by Erin Cardillo and Richard Keith, who also worked on Virgin River. The cast includes Andie MacDowell (famous for Four Weddings and a Funeral), Noah LaLonde (My Life with the Walter Boys), Toby Sandeman (Running Point), and country music star Walker Hayes, who is making his first appearance in a movie. Jared Padalecki is also a producer on the film.
The director explained that they first noticed the impact of BookTok after their film, Purple Hearts, became popular. The strong positive reaction on social media and among readers to Katherine Center’s book was a key reason they decided to direct the adaptation. They’ve enjoyed collaborating with Center and are excited to bring her funny story—about a serious bodyguard and a client—to a holiday setting, which they believe will enhance the romantic connection between the characters.
Guarding Stars does not yet have a set premiere date on Netflix.
