The Ted TV show continues the story from Seth MacFarlane’s Ted movies, offering a deeper look at the relationship between Ted and John Bennett. Featuring Seth MacFarlane and starring Max Burkholder, Scott Grimes, Giorgia Whigham, and Alanna Ubach, the series is set in the mid-1990s and follows Ted and John as they navigate high school and try to figure out their futures. Expect plenty of family drama, though not all of it is caused by Ted and John’s usual antics.
A major source of conflict in the show Ted revolves around Blaire Bennett and her uncle, Matty Bennett. They consistently clash due to their vastly different political beliefs and perspectives on life. This tension came to a head near the end of Season 1, and a similar, impactful moment occurs for the family in Season 2.
In an interview with MovieWeb, Ted actress Giorgia Whigham discussed the turning point for her character, Blaire Bennett, and Scott Grimes’ Matty Bennett. She particularly enjoyed a scene where her character vomited on Scott’s, as it perfectly captured the escalating tension between them. Whigham clarified that their conflict stems more from personal problems than political differences, leading Blaire to realize she and Matty fundamentally disagree on everything and need to accept that.
One of the funniest moments for me was when my character threw up on Scott’s. It felt like a natural culmination of all the tension that had been building between them. We’re always building towards a breaking point, and it was unexpectedly hilarious that it happened in that way. This season, the conflict feels different because it’s rooted in more personal issues, rather than just politics, although politics are still involved. It’s more about what my character is personally going through. The tension is deeper this season, and ultimately, she realizes they’ll never see eye to eye, and they just need to accept that.
During the second season, Blaire and Matty’s relationship takes a dramatic turn when Blaire unexpectedly gets sick on him during a dinner, shocking everyone present. This leads to increased tension and Blaire makes a significant, yet divisive, choice about her future, sparking major conflicts with her aunt and uncle.
Though this story arc only lasts a single episode, it’s one of the most intense moments of the season, especially after the show’s earlier, more comedic episodes like the Dungeons & Dragons game and the phone sex line from the beginning. Even though we probably won’t see this part of Ted’s story again, the scene between Blaire and Matty will likely be remembered as one of the show’s biggest surprises.
