The show Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is expanding the universe with a mysterious new Titan, now known as Co’cai (previously called Titan X), who could be as powerful as Godzilla. While introducing this new threat, the series cleverly connects to past events in the Godzilla and Kong storylines. May is once again working undercover at Apex Cybernetics, trying to uncover their plans, unaware that Apex is actually building Mechagodzilla.
Apex has obtained a significant amount of secret information from Monarch, particularly regarding Skull Island – unsurprising, considering the two organizations previously collaborated on a research facility there. The leaked data also includes an unexpected mention of Mothra (identified as “Titanus Mosura”) and references to King Ghidorah and Outpost 32. However, the most intriguing discovery is a hint suggesting the emergence of a completely unknown Titan.
Monarch is Setting Up A Major Titan in Russia

In Season 2, Episode 3 of Monarch, it’s revealed that Apex stole several important files, including one surprisingly filed by “Red Monarch” in the USSR on September 10, 1984. This date is curious because the Chernobyl disaster occurred on September 10, 1982, and the show’s universe could easily explain that event as a Titan incident. However, the stolen file is dated two years later, making a direct connection to Chernobyl unlikely. While some Soviet investigations into Chernobyl reported findings in 1984, those reports came much earlier in the year.
Even before the events at Chernobyl, there have been clues about a group called “Red Monarch.” The map from Season 1 showed several of their outposts in the former Soviet Union, indicating they operated on both sides of the Cold War divide. It seems Monarch and the Soviets actually collaborated on science and environmental issues. It’s likely “Red Monarch” discovered something significant in 1984 – possibly a Titan frozen deep within Siberia.
Beyond what we’ve seen with Monarch, we know the Titan Amhuluk is currently hibernating near the Manpupuner Rock Formation, where it’s being watched by Outpost 66. It will eventually be awakened by King Ghidorah. Interestingly, another Titan was seen attacking Moscow during Ghidorah’s assault on Earth, and it wasn’t Amhuluk, considering the distance between them. It seems Monarch is building a story that combines Titans with elements of Cold War history, and it will be exciting to see if this becomes a major storyline in future seasons.
Okay, so I just finished Season 2 of Monarch, and I’m really curious to hear what everyone else thought. It definitely had its moments, but I’m eager to dive into a discussion about it. Head over to the ComicBook Forum and let’s talk – I want to know your take!
