Hailee Steinfeld had a sinfully sweet reason for missing the 2026 Oscars.
Actress Shay Mitchell, who is pregnant with her first child with husband Josh Allen, is expected to give birth very soon. Her Without Remorse costar, Michael B. Jordan, mentioned this while accepting his Best Actor award on March 15th.
While accepting his award, the 39-year-old warmly acknowledged his colleagues and also sent a sweet message to Hailee, who is expecting a baby soon.
Michael finished the awards season strongly, winning the top prize over strong competition including Timothée Chalamet, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ethan Hawke, and Wagner Moura. The 39-year-old actor had previously spoken about how much it meant to be recognized among such talented performers this year.
As someone who’s always been passionate about film, growing up I really looked up to the actors and filmmakers recognized by the Academy. To now be considered among them, to be part of those conversations, is incredibly validating and feels like a dream come true. It’s a truly solidifying moment in my career.
The film Sinners made a significant impact on the industry, earning a record-breaking 16 nominations – including one for Best Picture – and ultimately winning four awards.
He said the nomination is a real tribute to everyone involved in making and watching the film. It’s incredibly rewarding to see all the different aspects of the project recognized, and he’s finding it hard to express how much it means.
Director Ryan Coogler, who previously collaborated with Michael on films like Fruitvale Station (2013), Creed (2015), and Black Panther (2018), has often spoken about how important the actor was to the success of Sinners and how much he appreciates his lead actor.
Ryan told Variety in October that he believes the actor significantly improved his performance, saying, “It would mean a lot to him to be recognized by his colleagues and others in the industry.”
