Conan O’Brien Sends Love to Martin Short After Daughter’s Death

Conan O’Brien is sending love to Martin Short. 

The host of the 2026 Oscars ended the show with a heartfelt message to a close friend.

Conan ended the March 15th ceremony at the Dolby Theatre by saying it had been a wonderful experience, and affectionately told Marty Short, ‘We love you, good night.’

Conan O’Brien subtly acknowledged Selena Gomez, the star of Only Murders in the Building, just weeks after the tragic death of his daughter, Katherine Short, who died by suicide on February 23rd at the age of 42.

Martin’s representative confirmed the sad passing of Katherine Hartley Short in a statement to TopMob News. The family is heartbroken and has asked for privacy during this difficult time. Those who knew Katherine remember her as a bright and joyful person who will be deeply missed.

Since his daughter’s death, Martin has been keeping to himself. He postponed a comedy show he was scheduled to do with Steve Martin at the Pabst Theater in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, at the end of last month. Martin and his late wife, Nancy Dolman, also had sons Oliver, 39, and Henry, 36.

Once the show was cancelled, the theater announced that tickets would be valid for a new date in the future.

Martin is grieving the loss of his daughter, just over 15 years after his wife passed away from ovarian cancer in 2010. He later spoke about the challenges of coping with loss while in the public spotlight, having previously been on Saturday Night Live.

In a 2014 interview with Maclean’s magazine, Martin explained that everyone experiences loss and pain. He said it’s important to remember that life goes on – the sun will still rise, and even those closest to you will have their own everyday concerns, like a scratch on their car. That’s simply how life is.

He explained that if you’re naturally a happy person, you need to build strategies to help you regain that happiness when things get tough.

By the end of the night, both Ryan Coogler, director of Sinners, and Paul Thomas Anderson, director of One Battle After Another, were celebrating their first Academy Awards – Coogler for Best Original Screenplay and PTA for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Mark Sonnenblick attempted to delay the commercial break, but wasn’t successful. It interrupted one of his songwriting colleagues while they were accepting the award for Best Original Song at the historic Golden ceremony.

Although Madison won Best Actress last year, the recent reunion felt meaningful and genuine.

The spacious Marty Supreme row allowed Timothée Chalamet to bring his sister and Kylie Jenner along for a night out.
