With the release of Dune 3 approaching later this year, Rebecca Ferguson has hinted at what’s in store for her character, Lady Jessica. In a recent interview, she shared a somewhat disheartening detail about Lady Jessica’s role in the story. This news comes as the final film in the Dune trilogy starts its initial promotional push, including the release of a first teaser trailer tomorrow.
Rebecca Ferguson says she has a small role in Dune 3
During an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, Rebecca Ferguson discussed her part in the upcoming Dune 3. When asked how it compared to her previous experiences with the films, she explained that she has a much smaller role in the third installment.
She admitted she hadn’t fully engaged with the topic yet and didn’t want to comment extensively. However, she highly praised the script, describing it as ‘fantastic.’ She also explained that her character, Lady Jessica, only had a significant role in the first two films. Initially, she believed she wouldn’t be involved in the third film until director Denis Villeneuve decided to include a single scene for her.
Ferguson explained how strange it felt to be on the set of a film she wasn’t actively involved in. She said it was a peculiar experience to be in a familiar place, yet not be a part of the production.
The actress also mentioned feeling a lot of fear of missing out, and a sense of resignation – like you just have to focus on telling the story, no matter what.
The first look at Dune: Part Three will arrive tomorrow on TikTok at 9 a.m. Pacific Time / 12 p.m. Eastern Time. Along with the trailer, new posters of the characters have been shared, offering a preview of how they’ll look in the film.
The third Dune movie, titled Dune 3, will be released in theaters on December 18, 2026. It continues the story from the previous films, picking up twelve years after the events of Dune: Part Two, and is based on Frank Herbert’s novel Dune Messiah, originally published in 1969.
Denis Villeneuve directed the film, which he co-wrote with Jon Spaihts. The cast includes Rebecca Ferguson alongside Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jason Momoa, Josh Brolin, Robert Pattinson, Javier Bardem, and Isaach De Bankolé.
