Starting today, Sony is releasing a new software update for the PS Portal. This update includes a visual enhancement option and improvements to how the device streams games.
So, I just downloaded the latest update for my PS Portal, and it’s awesome! It added a new 1080p High Quality mode that seriously makes my PS5 games look way better on the handheld. Basically, it prioritizes a really smooth and crisp picture. It does this by streaming the games at a higher data rate than the regular 1080p mode, which makes a noticeable difference. I’m really enjoying the improved visuals!
To get the best picture, open the Quick Menu and choose 1080p High Quality under the Max Resolution setting.
This firmware update also includes improvements to cloud streaming on the PS Portal. According to the PlayStation Blog, you can expect these changes:
- Improved Product Detail Page
- When you select “Stream” on the product detail pages of game bundles, a new UI will show up, allowing you to select a specific game to play from that bundle.
- Game Invite
- If you’re actively streaming a supported title and receive game invites, you’ll now see a clear on-screen notification on PS Portal, ensuring you never miss an invitation while playing.
- Enhanced Trophy notifications
- Trophy notifications now clearly display the trophy name and associated image when unlocked. Platinum trophies will also feature their special animation, bringing greater visibility and celebration to your achievements.
- Improved Search screen
- The search interface has been refined for a smoother experience, such as the On Screen Keyboard display being available immediately when going into search.
Okay, so Sony just shared some cool stats about the PS Portal, and it sounds like it’s doing really well! Apparently, over half of us who own a Portal are also subscribed to PS Plus Premium – which makes sense, because that’s how we’re streaming games on it. And get this – the number of people using the streaming service every month has more than doubled compared to last January! That’s a huge jump, and it’s awesome to see so many people enjoying cloud gaming.
