Bridgerton favourite Nicola Coughlan’s new drama tipped to tackle manosphere from female perspective

Nicola Coughlan, known for her role in Bridgerton, stars in a new Channel 4 drama called I Am Helen, which is expected to examine the online ‘manosphere’ through the eyes of a woman.

This upcoming two-part drama is the fourth story in Dominic Savage’s ‘I Am’ series, which focuses on the experiences of women and tackles important social issues. Previous episodes have featured acclaimed actresses like Vicky McClure, Lesley Manville, and Gemma Chan.

Deadline reports the show will center on Helen’s boyfriend (played by Joe Cole, known for Peaky Blinders) and his descent into the ‘manosphere.’ The series will examine how harmful ideologies can damage contemporary relationships.

Channel 4 has yet to confirm the plot for the series.

This new series is being announced amidst increased attention to the subject, sparked by documentaries like Louis Theroux: Inside The Manosphere and the Emmy-winning Adolescence.

In July, it was announced that Nicola Coughlan would star in the fourth season of the show, which will feature a brand new story.

The actor said it feels amazing to be working on this project alongside such talented women, and they feel lucky to be a part of it.

Channel 4 drama commissioning editor Gemma Boswell announced the return of Dominic Savage, joining the incredibly gifted Nicola Coughlan for the new series, I Am Helen.

She explained that the ‘I Am’ series offers a strong and relevant look at modern life, and they’re excited to have Dominic and Nicola bring this unique and meaningful story to life.

A release date is yet to be revealed.
