Peacock Just Added a Modern Reimagining of a Decades-Old Mystery Classic

Get ready to investigate! Peacock is adding lots of new shows and movies this March. Along with favorites like The Big Lebowski and John Wick: Chapter 4, they’ve just added a fresh take on a classic mystery by Agatha Christie, the renowned queen of suspense.

Hercule Poirot was back on screens in 2022 with the film Death on the Nile. Kenneth Branagh’s adaptation of Agatha Christie’s classic 1937 novel—previously adapted in 1978—began streaming on Peacock on March 1st. Branagh stars as the famous detective whose relaxing vacation on a luxurious 1937 Egyptian river cruise is disrupted by a murder. When a wealthy woman is killed, Poirot must find the killer among a group of secretive wedding guests before they reach their destination.

If you enjoy classic murder mysteries, you won’t be disappointed with Death on the Nile. It’s a stylish and entertaining movie, perfect for fans of Agatha Christie or modern mysteries like Knives Out. Unlike the 2017 film Murder on the Orient Express, this movie focuses more on developing its characters. It starts slowly, allowing you to get to know everyone before a murder takes place, which makes the investigation that follows even more tense and gripping. As the body count rises and the mystery unfolds, the film builds to a tragic but satisfying conclusion when Poirot reveals the truth behind the crime.

The film’s intriguing mystery is made even better by its well-developed characters and excellent acting, especially from Kenneth Branagh, who portrays a more human and sensitive Poirot than before. Visually stunning, the movie unfolds against the beautiful scenery of Egypt and captures the glamorous style of classic travel films. While it doesn’t quite surpass the 1978 version, Death on the Nile is still a very enjoyable film, earning scores of 62% from critics and 82% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.
