More insight into Malcolm-Jamal Warner‘s final days have been uncovered.
Approximately two months before his unfortunate death following an accidental drowning incident, a former star of the popular TV series “The Cosby Show,” who portrayed Theodore Huxtable on NBC, granted his last public interview. In this final conversation, he shared sincerely how he wished to be remembered after passing away.
In simpler terms, Warner expressed on the May 21st episode of the Hot & Bothered with Melyssa Ford podcast that he would feel content knowing both himself and others recognize his goodness as his primary legacy. Frequently, his father would tell him, “People appreciate you, and people often discuss your career achievements and success, but what truly fills me with pride is seeing you as a good person.
Furthermore, he hoped his Hollywood career would leave an enduring imprint. Indeed, Warner managed to achieve a seldom-seen feat by appearing in numerous prominent series after the massive success of The Cosby Show, including Reed Between the Lines and The Resident.
He once recalled his mother telling him, “Mr. Cosby bestowed immortality upon you,” which hints at a certain legacy. However, since my life after that show has been so rich and fulfilling, I also have the opportunity to create another layer of legacy.
Furthermore, Warner made it clear that alongside his wish for recognition based on his professional accomplishments, he also stressed the significance of imparting a valuable lesson through his life’s example. In essence, he hoped to demonstrate that even amidst the world’s darkness, one can preserve their integrity and remain a virtuous individual.
During his July 20th vacation in Costa Rica, Warner found himself caught in a strong undertow while swimming in the ocean. The Costa Rican Judicial Investigation Agency subsequently confirmed this to TopMob News via a translated statement. Fortunately, individuals on the beach managed to rescue him, but tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following this, the Costa Rican National Police informed ABC News that Warner’s cause of death was asphyxia. He was 54 years old.
After the unfortunate incident, many of Warner’s friends and fellow actors paid heartfelt tributes to him, reflecting sentiments similar to those he had expressed about his legacy.
In her July 21st Instagram post, Tracee Ellis Ross, an actress who worked with him on ‘Reed Between the Lines’, described him as a warm, gentle, considerate, deep, amusing, and elegant individual. She expressed that he brought light to the world and sent love to his family during this difficult time, acknowledging her profound sorrow over this unexpected loss.
