Subnautica 2 will be available for early access players starting in May, according to IGN. You’ll be able to play it on Xbox Series X/S through the Game Preview program, and on PC through Steam Early Access and the Epic Games Store.
Steve Papoutsis, head of the studio, recently praised the team and their collaborators. He stated that their hard work over the last nine months has brought Subnautica 2 to a point where they’re all very proud of it. Both the team and Krafton agreed it’s now ready for players to experience through an Early Access release in May.
After a delay last year, we’ve used the extra time to add more story content, new environments, creatures, and a lot of other improvements. We recently passed a key review by Krafton and are now excited to begin openly developing the game with our community. We’re confident we’re at a stage where we can create an experience players will truly enjoy.
Following Ted Gill’s return as CEO after a court decision, Papoutsis expressed optimism about working with him to ensure a successful game launch and a smooth handover. Their main goal is to deliver the game to the enthusiastic community who have been waiting for it, and they are committed to recognizing the existing work that has made this possible.
The ruling follows a Delaware court decision finding that Krafton unfairly fired Brendan Greene (PlayerUnknown) and two co-founders, Charlie Cleveland and Max McGuire. Greene will be reinstated and will also oversee the initial launch of the game. The three are also due the original $250 million payment Krafton promised when it bought the studio, as long as certain performance targets are met.
It’s pretty safe to say Subnautica 2 is highly anticipated, as it currently has more wishlists on Steam than games like Forza Horizon 6 and Resident Evil Requiem. If you’re interested in what the developers at Unknown Worlds have been up to, you can find more information in their new Leviathan update. The update also details improvements to multiplayer and base-building features.
