Throughout the Dragon Ball series, powerful gods have always been present. But it wasn’t until Dragon Ball Super that Akira Toriyama created the Gods of Destruction. These beings are responsible for keeping balance in the universes by destroying what threatens it, and Beerus was the first one introduced – and one of the strongest.
Beerus is the God of Destruction of Universe 7, but he’s also become a friend and teacher to Goku and the other heroes. He often seems tired of his duties as a god, which has led fans to speculate about who might take his place. While Beerus hasn’t retired yet, there are already several characters in Universe 7 who could potentially become the next God of Destruction when the time comes.
Vegeta’s Destructive Power Makes Him a Great God of Destruction Candidate
Vegeta experiences one of the most compelling character developments in the entire Dragon Ball series, and many fans believe he undergoes more significant growth than Goku in Dragon Ball Super. For a long time, Vegeta has always tried to keep up with Goku, so it’s a huge moment when he decides to find power in a different way. His transformations like Super Saiyan Blue Evolved, Forced Spirit Fission, and especially Ultra Ego, demonstrate his determination to create his own path to strength – one that could ultimately surpass even Goku’s Ultra Instinct.
Vegeta has stated he doesn’t want to be a God of Destruction right now, but he might feel differently in the future. He’s trained with Beerus, learned the powerful Hakai technique, and essentially functions as a Destroyer already. Considering Vegeta originally set out to destroy Earth when he first appeared in Dragon Ball, it would be fitting for him to become a major leader protecting Universe 7.
Broly Can Protect the Entire Universe as a Legendary Super Saiyan
The movie Dragon Ball Super: Broly successfully adds the well-known Dragon Ball Z character, Broly, to the official storyline. As the Legendary Super Saiyan from Universe 7, Broly is incredibly powerful, ultimately being defeated only by the combined might of Gogeta Blue. He’s even strong enough to compete with Gohan in his Beast form during practice.
Seeing Broly become a hero and make up for his past is really rewarding, but he still seems to be missing a clear, overarching purpose. His immense power is reminiscent of the Destroyer Gods, and it’s interesting to consider if he’d actually want that role. Given his history and how much he’s thought about fairness and doing the right thing, becoming a Destroyer could be a fitting path for him in the Dragon Ball universe.
Orange Piccolo’s Strength Competes With Super Saiyan Power
The latest arc of Dragon Ball Super finally gives Piccolo a significant power upgrade, pushing him to a new level of strength. Thanks to Shenron, Piccolo unlocks his hidden potential and achieves his first true transformation: Orange Piccolo. While Orange Piccolo hasn’t had much screen time beyond assisting with the defeat of Cell Max, it’s been established that his power level is considerable.
Piccolo’s incredible new transformation suggests he could realistically become the next God of Destruction, and his orange form even looks the part. It would also be a fitting continuation of his story, echoing Kami’s previous role as Earth’s Guardian, and allowing Piccolo to become a protector on a much larger scale. This feels like a natural progression for his character, particularly after developing his bond with Neva in Dragon Ball DAIMA.
Future Trunks Has Always Been Destined For Greatness in Dragon Ball
Future Trunks is a popular character in the Dragon Ball series, and fans were excited to see him return in the Trunks Saga of Dragon Ball Super. He plays a key role in the fight against Goku Black and Future Zamasu. However, the damage caused by Infinite Zamasu is so severe that Future Zeno is forced to wipe out the entire timeline. While Future Trunks and Future Mai are saved in a new, similar timeline, many fans feel the ending doesn’t fully resolve their story.
Future Trunks has become an important hero in Dragon Ball games as part of the Time Patrol, so it makes sense to explore him as a God of Destruction. He’s already proven his dedication to protecting Universe 7, pushing himself to incredible power levels with his Super Saiyan Rage form and the Sword of Hope. This role aligns well with his beliefs, and Beerus might even enjoy having Vegeta’s son take over for him.
Granolah’s Supernaturally Boosted Strength Could Gain Purpose Through Godhood
Granolah, a new character from the Dragon Ball Super manga after the Tournament of Power, is a compelling addition to the series. Driven by a desire for revenge against the Saiyans, whom he holds responsible for the destruction of his race, he wishes to become the strongest warrior in Universe 7. While his wish is fulfilled, it comes with a significant cost: a dramatically shortened lifespan.
Against the odds, Granolah lives through the events of the Granolah the Survivor arc and leaves to focus on restoring his home planet. Whether he’ll ever reappear is unknown, but it would be a fitting end to his story if he became Universe 7’s God of Destruction. His power, strong sense of justice, and unusual abilities would make him well-suited for the role. It’s even conceivable that beings like Whis or Zeno might lift his life-shortening punishment if he agreed to serve as a God of Destruction.
Goten Could Finally Realize His Full Potential as a God Of Destruction
The series Dragon Ball Super has hinted that Goku could potentially become a God of Destruction, despite his lack of desire for the role. Interestingly, Gohan recently unlocked a powerful new form, and this has led Beerus and Whis to consider if he could be a suitable candidate instead. However, Gohan isn’t interested in becoming a God of Destruction either, preferring his current life on Earth.
Goten’s character has always felt inconsistent in Dragon Ball Super, and the series hasn’t found a strong purpose for him, even during his own storyline. He currently isn’t powerful or focused enough to be Universe 7’s God of Destruction. However, giving him this role would be a rewarding way for him to demonstrate his worth, particularly after hinting that Goku or Gohan might become a god, only to surprise fans by choosing Goten instead.
Majin Duu as a God of Destruction Would Change Dragon Ball Forever
The new series, Dragon Ball DAIMA, takes place after the Buu Saga in Dragon Ball Z but before the events of Dragon Ball Super. During a journey to the mysterious Demon Realm, Goku and his friends uncover some surprising secrets. This adventure expands the Dragon Ball universe with new stories, powerful transformations, and interesting characters. Dr. Arinsu creates two powerful beings, Majin Kuu and Majin Duu, while searching for the Dragon Balls within the Demon Realm. Though initially created to be villains, these two Majin ultimately become unexpected allies, helping to free the Demon Realm.
At the end of Dragon Ball DAIMA, Majin Kuu rightfully becomes the Demon King, a perfect ending for such a unique character. However, the future of Majin Duu remains uncertain. As Dr. Arinsu’s strongest creation, Duu possesses immense power, a flexible fighting style, and a wide understanding of the universe, making him a strong contender for the role of a God of Destruction. His design even shares similarities with existing Destroyers like Champa and Rumsshi, suggesting he could easily become an incredibly powerful one.
