Netflix’s Streaming Hit Is Gaslit by My Husband: The Morgan Metzer Story Featuring One Tree Hill Reunion

The show originally ran on The WB and The CW for nine seasons, from 2003 to 2012, and the actors have since worked together again on various projects. Most recently, in 2024, Jana Kramer and Austin Nichols appeared in the true crime film Gaslit By My Husband: The Morgan Metzer Story.

The movie, originally shown on Lifetime, starred Kramer as Morgan Metzer and Nichols as her former husband, Rodney. Two years later, Gaslit By My Husband: The Morgan Metzer Story unexpectedly became very popular on streaming platforms like Netflix, according to FlixPatrol.

The new true crime series started at number three on the U.S. charts on March 16th, quickly climbing to second place the next day. It’s currently behind only one show and has now surpassed another in popularity.

What Happens in the 88-Minute True Crime Drama?

The movie Gaslit By My Husband: The Morgan Metzer Story features actors Sophia Kramer and Bethany Joy Lenz playing a married couple, a dynamic different from their roles on One Tree Hill. While their characters had connected storylines in the popular 2000s series, Kramer’s character never actually dated Lenz’s. This film, however, allows viewers to see a new side of their acting talents.

Though some of the actors from One Tree Hill have worked together on other projects – like Hilarie Burton Morgan and Tyler Hilton in the 2019 Christmas movie A Christmas Wish, and Robert Buckley with Hilton, Danneel Ackles, and Antwon Tanner in 2018’s The Christmas Contract – Gaslit by My Husband marks the most substantial reunion of the show’s cast.

Morgan and Rodney initially have a healthy marriage, but tension arises when Morgan decides she wants to return to work. This upsets Rodney, who begins to manipulate and confuse her, making her doubt her own perceptions. Although they eventually divorce, Morgan is later attacked at home, and the police find inconsistencies in Rodney’s account of events.

This dramatic film currently lacks enough reviews for a Rotten Tomatoes critic score, but it has a 63% audience approval rating on that site. It also has a score of 6.1 out of 10 on IMDb. The movie is based on the true story of Morgan Metzer, a woman from Georgia who was subjected to years of gaslighting and ultimately assaulted by her ex-husband in 2021.

Kramer responded to the film’s growing popularity online. In an Instagram Story, she shared, “Coming in at number two is wonderful, but this film means so much more than just a ranking. This role was very personal to me,” said the singer, who was also an executive producer on the project.

Hearing Morgan’s story helped me understand my own experiences with domestic violence and discover inner strength I didn’t know I had.

One Tree Hill Might Be Getting a Reboot

The popular TV show was a major hit in the 2000s, and there’s talk of bringing it back. However, the show’s creator, Mark Schwahn, faced serious accusations of assault and harassment from people who worked on the series. Now, the show’s former stars – Sophia Bush, Hilarie Burton Morgan, and Danneel Ackles – are hoping to revive the show and take control of their characters’ storylines.

A reboot is planned with the original trio expected to both produce and star. There haven’t been any official announcements since then, but the initial news was very well-received. Kramer expressed his enthusiasm at the time, writing, “Wahoooo. Ready when yall want me.” Nichols also hinted in July 2025 that he’d be interested in returning as Julian.

Several important cast members probably won’t be back for a revival. James Lafferty, who played Nathan Scott, explained in November 2025 that after nine years with the show, he feels they’ve already explored the characters’ journeys fully. He said he doesn’t think audiences would be interested in seeing Lucas and Nathan dealing with modern issues like social media.

Chad Michael Murray, known for his role as Lucas Scott, recently said he doesn’t think a show like One Tree Hill could succeed now. He believes the show’s popularity came from its focus on the relatable struggles of teenagers.
