Channel 4 confirms “bold” new TV format show recreating COBRA war room simulation

Channel 4 is creating a new and daring show that will explore how Britain’s key decision-makers would react during a national crisis.

The two-part series, “War Room,” puts prominent politicians, military leaders, and intelligence experts in a realistic, high-pressure simulation – similar to the UK’s COBRA meetings – to examine their decision-making process and how those choices might affect everyone.

This format was developed by military strategists, taking into account potential global conflicts expected in 2026.

The show is a fast-paced thriller that feels incredibly realistic. It blends actual footage from a war room with recreated scenes to immerse viewers in the action.

The committee will work from a highly secure, specially designed bunker—similar to the one used by the British government in times of crisis—where they’ll face critical decisions that could determine the nation’s fate. They’ll have to decide when to deploy forces, when to respond to attacks, and when to be honest with the people.

As a big fan of compelling TV, I’m really excited to hear that Colin Barr – the guy behind shows like SAS: Who Dares Wins and Hell Jumper – is executive producing this new series. He clearly knows how to deliver high-stakes drama! Helen Richards, who series produced The Jury: Murder Trial, is also on board, and that’s another great sign – she’s fantastic at building tension and keeping you hooked. It sounds like this series is in really capable hands.

Colin Barr, creative director at Expectation, explained that with new threats to Britain constantly emerging, their upcoming show, ‘War Room,’ will explore whether the country is prepared for modern warfare. While presented as a simulation, the show will be grounded in real and often unsettling facts, aiming for a dramatic and gripping experience.

Channel 4 frequently sparks important discussions about global issues with its impactful programming. A prime example is ‘Go Back to Where You Came From,’ a documentary series that challenged six people’s strong opinions on immigration by sending them on a journey from cities known for danger back to the UK.

The channel also broadcast “The Jury: Murder Trial,” a unique series where a real murder trial was recreated using original court transcripts. Twenty-four jurors then reviewed the evidence to see if they would arrive at the same conclusion as the original jury.

To promote its new documentary drama, Dirty Business, the broadcaster created an art installation called The Fountain of Filth. This was designed to highlight the very real and upsetting impact of the UK’s sewage problem, which is a central focus of the series.
