In early 2023, James Gunn and Peter Safran announced their plan for a rebooted DC Universe, revealing a large number of connected movies and TV shows. This included projects like Creature Commandos and Superman, which have already been released, and upcoming titles such as the Supergirl movie and the HBO series Lanterns. However, as the DC Universe has developed, some of those original projects have been put on hold. The film The Authority hasn’t moved forward, and other projects have been replaced with newer ones. Fans worried that the HBO Max series Booster Gold had been cancelled, as it hadn’t received any updates since the initial announcement.
Concerns that the Booster Gold TV series might be canceled started when fans noticed that David Jenkins, the creator of Our Flag Means Death who was writing the pilot, had removed all *Booster Goldrelated posts from his Instagram. Rumors quickly spread, including a false claim that he had unfollowed James Gunn. Jenkins later addressed the speculation, stating that, to his knowledge, the show is still planned. However, his wording was cautious, and he didn’t confirm whether he’s still working on the project, suggesting it might continue with a different creative team.
Booster Gold Remains One of the DCU’s Most Exciting Projects

The DC Universe’s planned movie and TV lineup has changed since it was first announced. One of the more unique projects is Clayface, a horror film directed by James Watkins, currently scheduled for release on September 11, 2026. A sequel to Superman, titled Man of Tomorrow, is also confirmed, with James Gunn writing and directing, and is slated for July 9, 2027. For animation, DC Studios is creating Mister Miracle, a series based on the popular comic book miniseries, written and executive produced by Tom King. On the film side, Ana Nogueira, who is writing the Supergirl movie, is also developing a Teen Titans movie, but is currently prioritizing the script for a standalone Wonder Woman film.
As a big Booster Gold fan, it’s frustrating to see other projects seemingly move forward while his show is still in development. But honestly, from the start, DC Studios has been committed to quality – James Gunn has insisted every script meet his standards before anything goes into production. That’s why the original showrunner, Danny McBride, left when Gunn wasn’t happy with the scripts last December. When Jenking came on board last July, he wasn’t asked to fix existing drafts, but to start fresh with a new pilot. So, if reports are true and Jenking has moved on, it just shows DC Studios is really dedicated to getting this character right. It might take longer than we’d like, but I’d rather they take the time to deliver a great show than rush something unfinished into production.
